Imagine for a moment, if you will, that you are new to the Flathead/Montana/Politics, and that you have decided to change your non voting ways because gosh darn-it... You have decided to be responsible and educate yourself about your electoral choices by visiting your local Democrats and your local Republicans.

Which party looks like more fun? Is there a party that looks like they might care about people like you? What party would that be, and why?

Maybe you realize that it is not time to vote, but you would like to donate your time, money and talents. Would You want to do that for the Flathead Democrats:

Every Donation Helps! Donations help our organization and assist our democrats running for office. There are no limits on contributions made to political parties. Federal law requires the name, address, occupation and employer for each contribution over $35. You can mail a check payable to: Flathead Democratic Party 633 Underhill Court Kalispell, MT 59901 Thank you!

Or Would you choose to donate your time, money, talents to the Flathead County Republicans?:

Taylor V Blasdel

by: Carla Augustad

Wed Jun 18, 2014 at 18:39:24 PM MST

Betsy Cummings is out to raise her eight year old twins, and Diane Francis Taylor got the nod from the Flathead Democrats to step into the role of challenging Mark Blasdel for Senate District Four.

Last nights action leaves the position of Democratic Candidate for House District Nine against Randy Brodehl vacant unless and until something changes.

Project Homeless Connect Tomorrow and Friday

by: Carla Augustad

Wed Jun 11, 2014 at 21:56:59 PM MST

This story from the Flathead Beacon came out really close to the time that Congressman Daines voted to cut food stamp funding.

Steve Daines at homeless shelter

Imagine how difficult it must be to meet one's nutritional needs and stay healthy if you had to shop and cook for one person as needed without a real kitchen, food storage capacity, and extremely limited finances. Now compound that by limiting your options even further by choosing only foods that can be eaten with x number of missing teeth. Some people like 61 year old Linda Shelley never get past it-they choose to die alone in the cold rather than continue to need something they are not suited to achieve.

Some major reasons for homelessness include domestic violence, accidents, job loss, mental and/ or physical illness, lack of affordable housing and of course the big one- lack of money and other resources.

Homelessness and poverty are two of the many topics that I had high hopes of bringing into the political conversation. It kills me that I cannot adequately express what my experiences and observations have taught me. I kind of keep hanging on because of some stubborn belief that if I just work harder and do better it might happen soon.

Despite my love of the bag pipes, I absolutely will not be for the opening ceremony because budget cuts last summer severely reduced the aqailability of public transportation for people who live om the margin (like me) and for people who lost their own margins in their past. I will be able to be there later in the role as hostess in the very cute cafe that the Samaritan House, Community Action Partnership and the United Way put together for our guests.

It will likely be Virginia from Senator Tester's office, and Kirby from Senator Walsh's office showing up with the fine folks at the Samaritan House, the United Way and Community Action Partnership as well asour local Bag Pipe players to unveil the Flathead Homelessness Interagency Resource and Education's (HIRE) Five Year Plan to Address Homelessness at nine O'clock in the morning at the SW corner of the Samaritan House's Administration Building lawn.

To the best of my knowledge, nobody from Steve Daines' office, or any ofour local Republican Legislators (Blasdel, Broedel, Glimm, Lavin, Olsen, and Reichner) that voted to kill the children's nutrition bills in the 2013 session are expected to be there.

Please read the Flathead  Beacon artible linked to above, and pay close attention tp this line
“...Krager said a federal HUD grant for *homeless programs that the shelter relies on* was cut this
year as part of the sequestration spending cuts, for which Daines voted, reducing the $64,000 grant
by nearly $8,000.”

Margot Kidder, possibly best known for being Lois Lane, was not talking about Lucille when she said that Dirk Adams has balls.

Kidder was praising Dirk Adams for his his strength, his conviction, and his courage to go all in despite the claims of others who claim it is not possible or prudent. Adams has done the work and he believes in himself.

I respect that because the worst mistakes I ever made in my own story were the times I cowerd and made myself small by people pleasing, playing it safe, and for settling for what I believed was possible.

That was old news. Now I choose to be bold, and to let you know that I initially chose to stand with Dirk Adams when he was the only candidate to give a shout for women on March 08, a nice recognition that went beyond the usual lip service that we as Democrats have conditioned ourselves to settle for. Take it from the lady who wrote the soundtrack of our lives

Who could have predicted that we would all be here without a media structure capable of sustaining a little democracy? Sometimes it feels like too much and I just need to get happy.
