The assault is relentless. Max Baucus now has audio up blasting the White House for the video.

This is a full-court press unlike anything I've seen from our Senior Senator since he went toe-to-toe to protect Social Security.

Max Baucus doesn't have the cahonnies to punch his way out of wet paper bag....this is absolutely NOTHING more than a campaign stunt, we don't hear jack squat from him for 5 years and the year before he's up for re-election he's flashing his pearly whites all over the place and he's Mr. Macho. You tell em' Max, by golly ya' got 6 millions bucks to play with making yourself look good to Montana voters, you just get out there and go nuts.....nice to know you're foggin' up the mirror these days, cause right after the election you'll go underground again!

Welcome to the party Captain Obvious? Max is a politician. OMG! You've figured it out. Now I think Matt may have mentioned Max protecting Social Security and I do believe that was far less than 5 years ago.

Just an honest question here: have you noticed something that really truly mattered to Montana and Max Baucus let it slip through his fingers? I'm being serious now. Montana hardly cares about the war (sad I know, but our state is kind of out of sight out of mind), and our state economy is doing just fine. So take a handful of things that Montana will always want our congressional delegation to fight for: CHIP, social security, agriculture, roads, and sometimes Malmstrom. Now where is Max missing or ever missing?

I'd defend Dennis the Menace if he ever showed some fight for Montana. Hell I might have even stepped in for The Con if he did the same.

...except for one thing. "Montana hardly cares about the war..." Are you serious? Everyone I talk to, on both sides of the aisle, has great concern about this war. The ramifications from this fiasco will be felt for decades. It has cost good men and women their lives, squandered whatever goodwill our nation had abroad and is over the half-trillion-dollar mark in expenditures. It's also going to cost some candidates their seats. I can't believe you said that.

That's what I was really getting at. There are a handful of dedicated folks like yourself and these guys who run this site that care and actually do something. Most of us can easily say we oppose the war and do nothing about it. That's what I mean by "hardly cares". Sorry to ruffle your feathers, but that's just how i see it.

but what precisely do you expect us to do? Congress seems incapable of stopping the madness from the White House. I've blogged my ass off about it, taking insult and abuse from the real Kool-aid drinkers (happily giving better than I get at every turn). Yet they persist in seeing a fantasy of happy and peaceful middle-eastern folks giving their wealth to the wise Empire Americanish, and embracing their Jewish brethren. Seriously, I'm open to suggestions.

This, to me, is doing something. The cheap talk I'm talking about is in a casual conversation Pete might have in passing with someone. "Oh yeah yeah, terrible stuff" and that's it. The best thing to do it try to get people in Congress who will at least try to do something. Bill Kennedy should be the next person Montana sends to Congress. Reelecting Dennis the Menace means that Montana wants business as usual. If Bill isn't elected then I truly believe my comments are vilified.

Like I said, the last time I heard this much (0.00 / 0)

was during the big Social Security fight in 2005 -- which was basically halfway through his Senate term. So I've seen him high-profile outside of election cycles.
