Senator Craig fights on!

by: Jay Stevens

Thu Oct 04, 2007 at 19:58:23 PM MST

A Minnesota judge denied Larry Craig's attempt to ditch his "guilty" plea. Nonetheless, Craig vows to soldier on:

"I am extremely disappointed with the ruling issued today," Craig said in a statement. "I am innocent of the charges against me. I continue to work with my legal team to explore my additional legal options."

"I will continue to serve Idaho in the United States Senate..."

Who knows? Maybe Craig will run again. You have to admire the Senator's state of denial. You get the feeling he's refusing to resign because he's really refusing to admit he's gay.

If he runs, that definitely slides Idaho into a more competitive bracket.

Oh yeah, and New Mexico's Pete Domenici announced his retirement. Tired of his office? IMHO, more likely too aware of his precarious legal standing after his involvement in the prosecutor purge.

In an already bad Senate map for the GOP, it's only getting worse. Think the RSCC is going to have ready cash for a GOP challenger to Max Baucus? Me, neither.

You gotta feel sorry for them (0.00 / 0)
NOT!

But the aren't going to waste $ just to stand on principle.

Some races they simply don't have a chance.

They won't (0.00 / 0)
If he some how makes it through his primary I think it would only be to spite McConnel. "You want me out of the Senate? Fine. I'll just get the Democrats another seat closer to filibuster proof." If he does get beat out it weakens the guy who takes over for him. Either way. I doubt the RNC will try to salvage that seat.

Now...about those football picks...

Pack is Back (0.00 / 0)
The Packers are 4-0 this season and have won 8 in a row going back to last year. Look for them to move to 5-0 with a serious thrashing of Da Bears at Lambeau on Sunday night.

P.S. While I wish no ill-will towards Sen Domenici with what sounds like a serious health condition, I'm certainly not sorry to see him leave the US Senate.  Like Sen Craig, Domenici has always sided with the resource extraction corporations at the expense of our public lands and the environment...in addition to other transgressions.

P.P.S. Go Pack Go!
