Republican Senators try to push Craig out of the closet

by: Jay Stevens

Mon Oct 08, 2007 at 06:24:00 AM MST

Republican errand-boy, Robert Novak, yesterday revealed that Senator Craig's bathroom peccadilloes - or other like activities - were known to his conservative colleagues in the Senate. Novak:

I have talked to several of my sources in the Senate, and this came as a surprise to me...They knew about it. They knew that he had this problem, and it was in the closet. And it was not just a homosexual relationship. It was this weird conduct. They didn't do anything about it.

Think Progress' Satyam tries to make from the statements a Mark-Foley-like cover up by Senate Republicans, but Craig's illicit bathroom lovin' - tho' icky and illegal - is a far cry from Foley's abuse of his office and universally condemned sexual proclivities. Senators may have thought - and rightly, IMHO - that what Craig did in his spare time away from the office was his own d*mn business.

Plus, if Novak is repeating rumors about Republican Senators, they're rumors the Republican Senators want us to know. What I think we're seeing is the Republican strategy for wedging Craig out, now. If it's true Craig is fighting his ouster because he's loath to admit - perhaps most of all to himself - his secret gay life, then, by golly, they're gonna make him face his sexual demons.

Or something.

Too bad, Larry (0.00 / 0)
had you been a democrat you could have tap danced your way through every airport bathroom in the USA, had sex with underage pages, had your boyfriend operate a male prostitution ring out of your home and "water boarded" a pregnant female campaign worker in the back of your Oldsmobile and nobody would have blinked an eye.  No democrat, that is.

It seems to me that if this was a liberal you here at Left in the West would be calling in all hands, rounding up the wagons and defending him. This is a pointless liberal attack. After all don't you people here at left in the west believe in privacy, perhaps guaranteed by some piece of paper....

Now i am aware that Jay, Matt, and the crew feel no shame and are liberal hacks.

Also i think he should resign, just as a side bar. Not because he is gay; but, the whole bathroom arrest thing.

actually... (0.00 / 0)
I don't think I ever called for his resignation. You can look it up, but I think I've just been commenting on the furor around the incident and the political landscape for LaRocco because of it.

I do acknowledge that this is a story because of Craig's hypocrisy on gay issues. With a Democrat, it probably wouldn't be a big deal that he was outed. I also admit I'm enjoying all the rightie fuss about Craig.

So...you know...maybe you shouldn't assume what I think or believe. Because you obviously don't know sh*t about me.

Jay which line and word number do i assume to know what you think?

Liberal shmibral... (0.00 / 0)
Actually you guys are still just plain wrong.  If he was a "liberal" (which means "evil person" apparently) it wouldn't be a big deal that he was gay but it would be a big deal if he was soliciting sex. You guys impeached Clinton for way less than this.  Once again, the irony is that Larry Craig voted against gay rights consistently, because if he came out, you probably would have run him out of the country. Because you still think people choose their sexual orientation.  Maybe if you guys practiced just a little bit of tolerance then good ol' Larry wouldn't have felt like he had to hide in airport bathrooms.  So does that mean you're just conservative hacks?  You know, just because we don't agree with your political beliefs.

we could talk about how Dems in the 50s and 60s voted against civil rights laws... Or we could all hope that progress will be made.

[ Parent ]
Yeh but.... (0.00 / 0)
all those democrats who voted against civil rights laws in the 50's and 60's are now republicans, don't ya know.  Or at least that's what the liberals say and they're always right, aren't they?

Is that wrong? (0.00 / 0)
Didn't the Democrats have almost all the Southern Senate seats in the 50's and early 60's? Now there are 4 or 5 that are Democrats. What was the change if it wasn't Civil Rights? This is fact, squidworth. It isn't left leaning spin. We had a few racists in our camp, and cleaned house. Sorry if they felt more at home being Republicans.

What about..... (0.00 / 0)
Senator Byrd or do you believe skunks can change their smell and get rid of the stripe down the middle of their backs?  You've got plenty of racists in your party, but of course they're not really racists because no democrat could ever be a racist.  Before you ask who I'm talking about let me name just two.  Jesse and Al fit the racist profile to a tee no matter how much you deny it.  So there, Mashmellow.

Yes (0.00 / 0)
People can reform themselves and change their minds on views. Just because you can't doesn't mean it isn't possible. We've had this same argument before. Sen Byrd has said he regretted his actions against the Civil Rights Act. I need you to expand on Jesse and Al a little bit more. I'm not getting it.

Just google.... (0.00 / 0)
their names and add racist and pick your poison.

"Also i think he should resign...Not because he is gay; but, the whole bathroom arrest thing."

I agree and I don't think anyone who has posted here would disagree with that. I could care less who, or what, he was trying to getting it on with in the men's bathroom at the airport.  Regardless of your sex or sexual orientation using public bathrooms can be sketchy enough without having someone doing what Senator Craig did.

He did it. He plead guilty. He said he was going to resign. He appealed his case and said again he'd resign if the guilty plea wasn't reversed. It wasn't and he now refuses to resign. That's all just a little bit weird, no matter if you have a "D" or "R" behind your name.

bathroom decorum (0.00 / 0)
It seems to me that Sen. Craig has dug his own grave, and the Repubs. that have hung their hats on superior than thou morality haven't the stomach for admitting homosexuality happens...so they just do their hatchet job on one of their own...
