I think the recent Nobel decision is a boon for Democrats, regardless of whether Gore enters the race.  Any thoughts?

Can you imagine a bush being awarded a Nobel? (4.00 / 1)
An arrest warrant, yes, a Nobel, no way.

Considering..... (0.00 / 0)
some of the past recipients, who the hell would want this albatross hanging around his neck?  No doubt, both Clintons would welcome it with open arms.

Gee, mommy and daddy, another worthless democrat received another worthless award.  Can we go to the celebration party?  You haven't taken me anywhere since the Paul Wellstone get out the democrat vote memorial celebration.

You're going to trash a memorial service (0.00 / 0)
for one of the most deeply beloved U.S. Senators in American history? Damn, that's low, Squid. Even by your standards.

[ Parent ]
"Memorial" services.... (0.00 / 0)
like the one the democrats conducted for Senator Wellstone was a disgrace and he certainly didn't deserve something like that.

[ Parent ]
Memorial (0.00 / 0)
As someone who was at the service for Senator Wellstone, I'm disgusted with the portrayal of it as a political event. It was a touching tribute to a man who had lots of friends on both sides of the isle, all of whom wanted the chance to say a few words.

[ Parent ]
Say what... (0.00 / 0)
you want, it was more about the democrat candidates for election than it was about Senator Wellstone.  And how about those boos for Senator Lott, who had come to pay his respects?  I was going to add that a police color guard was spat upon, but that happened at a Hillary function in Albany. Aren't you just proud of how some of your constituency conducts itself?

[ Parent ]
Boos? (0.00 / 0)
I really don't recall hearing more than a couple of boos for Senator Lott, so I'm not sure where you get your information.

[ Parent ]
Yeah -- and I'm sure you've got a better idea of what he wanted (0.00 / 0)
than his family and friends who organized the event as they were reeling from the loss of a closely loved couple and one of their children, plus other family friends.

Let me tell you this, Squid -- whatever happens at your funeral and/or memorial services, I hope that it reflects your wishes. And I hope that people on the other side of the country don't use it as an excuse to bash on your loved ones.

Have you actually watched the whole memorial service? Or do you know what you know from a couple of cherry picked scenes in an hours long service?

[ Parent ]
Well, Matt... (0.00 / 0)
if political rallies are the types of memorial services democrats have chosen for themselves, so be it,  I'll stick to the more conventional ones.

Cherry picking is a favorite pastime of democrats, so I guess I'm in good company.  Just look at what the democrats did to Rush and the "Phony Soldiers" episode.  You will have to say the "cherry picked" episode of democrats booing Senator Lott was classless to say the least and I doubt seriously that Senator Wellstone would have approved.

Nope, I haven't watched the whole service nor I haven't watched any dignitary memorial service in it's entirety, but I don't ever recall any such behavior at any of the other ones.

I didn't speak ill of Senator Wellstone.  My comments were directed at those who chose to exploit the dead for political advantage.

I'll end this with a quote that says it all:
"Virtually all the usual Democrat luminaries took their turn in the arena spotlights, including Bill and Hillary Clinton, who waved to the cheering throng as if they had just jointly been nominated for a third term."

[ Parent ]
Here's something from one of Senator Wellstone's friends (0.00 / 0)
Al Franken -- read it.

You're the one exploiting the dead for your political purposes, Squid.

[ Parent ]
Like I said, Matt... (0.00 / 0)
to each his own.  Al Franken is a "comedian" goof ball who is now throwing his hat into the political arena since he couldn't hack it in talk radio.  He fits in well on the democrat side of the house.

I have no political aspirations nor have I any power or influence.  I only have my opinions and beliefs and they are in direct contradiction with Hillary Clinton and all the rest of the socialists on the Left.

Personally, I think the people of this country need another lesson on what democrats can do when they're in charge of everything.  So roll on Hillary and when you're elected implement some of those millions of things you have in your mind and stick it to us one and all and that includes you liberals who worship at the altar of socialism..

[ Parent ]
Then your beliefs are also in direct contradiction (0.00 / 0)
with Senator Wellstone. So like I asked, please don't use the dead body of one of my heroes to advance your bullshit political agenda. And, when your time comes, I'll grant you the same respect.

[ Parent ]
I feel for you... (0.00 / 0)
You seem like a deeply unhappy person.  I suggest you stop working in politics.  It's just going to make you more miserable regardless of who wins.  I can't believe you think the Nobel Peace Prize is worthless award.  Cheer up, dude.  The world's not that bad.  You have food and a roof over your head!

[ Parent ]
What do you people think you are (0.00 / 0)
mind readers?  I don't work in politics and I don't know where in the hell you got that idea.

It sure as hell doesn't say much for an award when people like Gore and Carter receive it and in particular a peace prize award.  What the hell did either do to deserve it?  And how about Yasser?

Yes, I probably will be miserable if any of the democrats wins the presidency, but I'll get over it.  I served under about as useless as a commander in chief can get in one Jimmy Carter and survived and thankfully I was already retired when the democrats served up yet another loser in B.J. Clinton.  Nothing the democrats puke up now would be any better and probably worse.

Yes, I suppose, if Senator Wellstone was a liberal then most assuredly my beliefs would be in contrast with his and I see no reason to apologize just because he's deceased, although I suspect that you feel I should since he's one of your heroes.

Once again my comments were not directed towards Senator Wellstone at all and you know it.  They were directed at all the democrats who saw fit to ride chartered planes, at tax payer expense, to attend a memorial service that turned into a partisan political rally.

What about... (0.00 / 0)
putting Regan on some currency?  That wasn't political?  In case you forgot, this is politics.  I know, I know, Regan ended the Cold War.  The real reason the wall got torn down was because the people on one side of it were starving.

[ Parent ]
Oh yeah..... (0.00 / 0)
I forgot about someone jumping up during Reagan's memorial service and suggesting that his picture be put on some currency.

Can't bring yourself to spell his name correctly and can't give him credit due.  Typical liberal....

[ Parent ]
I really don't understand... (0.00 / 0)
why you hate Democrats so much.  Sorry for misspelling the name, it was just a typographical error.  I guess only liberals make those.  I can think of a bunch of different Republicans I admire for some reasons. Gerald Ford, Arlen Specter, George H.W. Bush, and even Richard Nixon have done some things I like, and those are just off the top of my head.  Honestly how many liberals do you know that ever say anything good about Richard Nixon?  Could you even be friends with a liberal?

But you just hate everything that isn't said by a Republican. Every Democrat is a hypocrite to you.  I'd really like to understand why.  Do you even know what the word liberal means?  Please define it below, and not in your typical cynicism, but with a Webster's style definition, please.  Or is Webster's Dictionary just a tool of liberal educators?

Also, sorry I assumed you worked in politics but you sure do spend a lot of time dropping by here to remind us how much you hate us.  We get it.  We know you don't like liberals.  But this probably isn't the best way to get us on your side, just so you know.

I think it unlikely... (4.00 / 1)
for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that he is still bitter about the last time he ran. I also think that it is unlikely that he could win either the primary nod or the actual election.

Gore has done some amazing things in trying to educate people about Global Warming. Regardless of whether you buy into his arguments, you have to give the man props for what he has accomplished.

That said, being President is not a "single issue" job. Where is Gore on Foreign Policy? Where is Gore on Health Care? Where is Gore on Immigration? Where is Gore on weaning us off the Foriegn Oil tit? Where is Gore on other many and varied issues facing America both Domestic and Foriegn?

I am not saying that Gore is a stupid man or even that Gore couldn't do the job. I am simply saying that, if Gore was going to run for President, he probably would have been making his stands on these other issues more clear over the last six months.

I applaud Al Gore for his accomplishments but I don't think that he is even seriously considering a run for President.

Moorcat

And trade. Where is he on the World Bank (0.00 / 0)
and the IMF, both failures?  Where is he on NAFTA?  Economic empire is tied to global warming.  Can't fix one without the other.  Stop shipping stuff from China.  Bring manufacturing back.

I admire Gore for his commitment now to global warming.

We have a great environmental candidate in John Edwards who was just endorsed by "Friends of the Earth" and also ten state SEIU unions endorsed him.
With Edwards you have an extrovert who relishes speaking to his peers without sounding condescending or wonkish.  It's his trial lawyer skills.

Gore may have been right for another era.  But we need a warrior for the working class and Mother Earth.  We need a lobbyist for the people who don't have one.

[ Parent ]
Gore himself, (4.00 / 1)
while he hasn't officially declared one way or the other, has said that he would prefer to concentrate on environmental issues, and global warming in particular, now that there is some momentum. Personally I think that would be wise.  If he were to be part of a new administration I think he would likely do more good in a supporting role than as the lead actor.
