New York Times Notices Montana Referenda

by: Matt Singer

Wed Nov 07, 2007 at 15:54:35 PM MST

Missoula's and Helena's war referenda caught the attention of the New York Times editorial board.

We've been asked repeatedly if these things would have any impact beyond symbolic -- as though in politics symbols don't matter.

I am absolutely ashamed of Montana today, shame on you Helena and Missoula for showing such disrespect for our Troops! God Bless them all. (0.00 / 0)

Interesting Response (4.00 / 2)
God may bless soldiers in harm's way, but it is well meaning Americans who are responsible for bringing them out of harm's way.  Allowing humans to live, rather than kill each other in war seems like the kind of respect God would preach.  Don't you think?

Or would you resign their fate to the respectful judgment of George Bush?

They VOLUNTEERED, man!!! (0.00 / 0)
They volunteered!  God bless George Bush, the volunteer user.

I'm worried... (0.00 / 0)
I'm really worried about your ignorance Wulfgar.  All those troops and national guard folks who are INVOLUNTARILY forced to serve second, third, and even fourth tours outside the scope of their service contracts.  And the large percentage of mercenaries... those are some pretty well-compensated volunteers.

If I were your mother Wulfgar, I would be really worried about you not reading the papers and following the war. It really concerns me.

Sounded sarcastic... (0.00 / 0)
Sarcasm is a tricky thing on blogs.

Oh, how dumb. (0.00 / 0)
I can't believe this. You have posted comments before that have some intelligence in them. This is by far the stupidest. You already know what people are gonna say because you've heard it before. Saying that dissent against the war is being anti-troop is like saying the 13th Amendment is anti-agriculture.

If your reply was to me, (0.00 / 0)
Mathello, then you'd better get your sarcasm meter checked, pronto.

Nope. (0.00 / 0)
To Intersted. I accidentally hit reply on gerik's comment. My bad.

It's a start... (0.00 / 0)
... and honestly, I was convinced it would only be symbolic. My mind is completely changed-this needs to be on the state ballot next year.

Put it to the state! (0.00 / 0)
I'm serious. Is there anyone working on putting the Iraq question to the entire state? Someone needs to be on that.
State ballot!
State ballot!
State ballot!

Really (0.00 / 0)
You mean to tell me that the most liberal community in Montana voted for a part of the democratic platform?  That is shocking, just shocking.  Guess what, bet Missoula would support medical marijuana, free healthcare for children, social cost prescriptions and gay marriage.  Just shocking.

So would most other large cities. (4.00 / 1)
Great Falls would, Helena would, Butte would, Billings maybe... All except for the gay thing. CHIP is incredibily popular in this state, and pormise to you if Dennis the Menace had voted wrong on that he would have got the ass whipping of a life time. Prescriptions are also a big thing in Montana. Don't fuck with kids and old people.

The entire state backed medical marijuana (3.00 / 1)
by the largest margin of any state in the union.

So...what's your point, scuba?
