Why is Rehberg Talking Up an Anti-Gun Candidate?

by: Matt Singer

Mon Dec 10, 2007 at 15:15:08 PM MST

This is insane. The same week that the Montana Republican Party blasts Jon Tester because he ostensibly "would support anti-gun [Republican] Bloomberg" for President (completely unfounded as a claim, other than a quote from Tester's office refusing to speculate since they hadn't anticipated the candidate.

And now, Dennis Rehberg is actually talking up Rudy Giuliani, another anti-gun Republican. Will Chris Wilcox demand a clarification?

Don't hold your breath.

This is the biggest problem with this kinda of "Gotcha" politics -- there's no way for anyone to be pure on it and it's stupid in the first place.

It's just fine that Rehberg is talking up Giuliani, but will this prevent the MT GOP from implying that Tester is anti-gun in the future? We'll see, I guess.

NO! It won't. (0.00 / 0)

I'm surprised you even asked the question, Matt.  In all honesty, the GOP in Montana has (and likely will continue to) offer some thoughtful and strong candidates.  BUT ... the organization as a whole exists as one gigantic insult to the intelligence of the Montana voter.

Well, thats not what makes him anti gun. Its the fact that he has not had a hunting license in how long. Its the fact that while hunting on the ranch next to his he told us to "stay the f*** off my land." Mind you we were with the owner of the land we were on, and he crossed onto the land to tell us off.

Wow what an advocate of the 2nd amendment we have...

Well, That's funny ... (0.00 / 0)
I don't remember the 2nd Amendment saying thing-one about hunting.  It does imply a bit about property right, which you appear to have little respect for. If your anecdote is true (and I strongly it to be a load of horseshit) then he had every right to tell you to stay the F*** off his land.  Either way, nothing you've written has anything to do with the second amendment, does it?

we were never on his land... and most people id hunting and the 2nd amendment as one in the same. There not for most practical purposes but people have them on the same playing field as one. He trespassed onto another persons land to tell us something... haha a load of laughs

Simply wrong, lying or both? (0.00 / 0)
and most people id hunting and the 2nd amendment as one in the same.

No, they don't.  You'd best learn a thing or two about the modern NRA and other organizations defending 2nd amendment rights.  The NRA has worked hard here of late to separate hunting rights from gun rights for these reasons:

1) The number of gun owners and recreational shooters is growing while the number of hunters is falling *fast*.
2)  No court has defended hunting as a right guaranteed, and there have been rulings in the opposite direction, that hunting is not a Constitutional right of the Second or any other Amendment.  That's why we here in Montana added it to our Constitution.

Face it, the only one who thinks that someone who doesn't hunt is anti-2nd is you.

He trespassed onto another persons land to tell us something.

Hmmm, who to believe?  An ex-school teacher and well-respected Montana legislative leader, or anonymous internet troll throwing wild accusations?  You can give up on the anecdote, MR, 'cause nothing you write here will convince me or likely anyone else that you're telling the truth.
