Bill Kristol right, for once...back in 2003

by: Jay Stevens

Sat Dec 29, 2007 at 22:53:35 PM MST

You know, today I'm inclined to agree with Bill Kristol, in this 2003 article (hat tip, ThinkProgess):

Still, the simple truth is that a great democracy like ours deserves a first-rate newspaper of record. And the New York Times isn't it.

The proof?

A day after the Huffington Post first reported it, The New York Times has announced that it has indeed hired conservative pundit, and Fox News analyst, Bill Kristol, as a new regular op-ed columnist.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'd love to read a "serious, respected conservative intellectual" in the pages of the The New York Times, but Kristol is none of the above. How many times does this fellow have to prove himself wrong -- egregiously and humiliatingly so -- before the chattering classes realizes he's a charlatan?

Ahh... from Katha Pollitt's mouth to your ears. Tres original!

How many times does this fellow have to prove himself wrong -- egregiously and humiliatingly so -- before the chattering classes realizes he's a charlatan?

You mean like your being wrong on just about every subject? Take for instance the claim that in only a few years Montana will be a "progressive" state, and that Missoula will replace Billings as the economic and cultural centre of Montana life. Then there was the post on how solar cells should replace coal  in Montana, etc, etc, etc. It would seem that in many ways your track record is somehow eerily similar to what you claim of Kristol. Pot meet kettle.

A) I'm not a NYTimes columnist.

B) I actually believe that MT is a "progressive" state, now. Certainly relating to economics. There's plenty of proof, too. The citizens' stance on trade, minimum wage, the Patriot Act, taxation, you name it...all progressive. You make claims, but back nothing up with fact.

C) You are free to stop reading anytime you like. Yet you constantly return and troll the comments. Interesting...

BTW, on coal... (0.00 / 0)
Your attitude towards MT on this one is pretty insulting. You're basically claiming MTians would prefer submitting to a dead-end industry that pollutes, is more expensive, and keeps them dependent on multinational corporations. IMHO, I think most folks around here would know a raw deal when they see it.
