Live blogging Super Tuesday...

9:38 pm

All right, I'm done. I'm toast.

Looks like we're where we started in the Democratic primary: a deadlock between Clinton and Obama. The pundits say that's to Obama's advantage in the end. Then again, there are those pesky superdelegates.

As for the GOP side of things, McCain won the big states and most of the delegates, but with a pesky Huckabee nipping at his heels in the South. I can't say the same for Romney, he won his two "home" states (UT and MA), two little states (MT and ND), and Minnesota.

This thing will drag on a little while longer for the Republicans...but the outlook favors McCain right now...

9:15 pm

Ron Paul wins Missoula county, 45-42!

With one county left, I reiterate: I call Montana for Mitt Romney!

9:11 pm

Can I project the Montana caucus outcome? There are still three counties to report -- Missoula, Flathead, Ravalli, and Lewis and Clark -- but Romney has a pretty big lead at 37 percent over Paul (22%) and McCain (23%).

I call this race for Mitt Romney!

You heard it here first!

9:05 pm

Still thinking about Mitt Romney's hilarous speech tonight, when I stumbled across this video over at ThinkProgress: "The Conservative Agenda for 2008 -- A Third Bush Term."

Only Romney tried to spin the Bush agenda as "change," while simultaneously claiming that continuing on this course will wreck the country.

My brain hurts.

9:00 pm

Yellowstone county reports: 23 for Huck, 12 for McCain, 36 for Paul, and 47 for Romney.

Paul and Romney are surging! Paul now has 22 percent of all the reported votes, Huckabee just under 17 percent, McCain 24 percent, and Romney has 35 percent.

8:54 pm

Pete and Rebecca report from the Missoula caucus. Apparently the votes have been cast and are currently being tallied...

8:47 pm

Gallatin county reported: a big push for Romney. Results: Romney 47, Paul 28, McCain 14, Huckabee 11.

Right now, Romney leads with 36 percent, McCain 25, Paul 21, and Huckabee 17. Paul's surging!

I'm curious to see Missoula's vote...

8:43 pm

So far, these are the states CNN called:

Obama: MN, CT, KS, ND, AL, DE, IL, GA
Clinton: NJ, MA, NY, TN, AR, OK

A thing to always remember when looking at the Democrats' results, delegates are rewarded on a proportional basis by state, not a winner-take-all basis.

Obama is picking up steam as the races head west...

Huckabee: AL, AR, WV
McCain: AZ, OK, NY, DE, NJ, CT, IL
Romney: UT, MA

I'm listening to Mitt Romney's speech - I have to say it's very weird. He's doing his "outsider" speech thing. Hilarious. At one point he says if Washington doesn't change its course, we won't be the premier power in the world anymore. And then he lists his platform, which is basically supports the same policies that...well...the Bush administration has been pursuing for the past eight years.

It looks like he's toast tonight. Given the mendacity of this speech, I have to say I'm relieved.

8:29 pm

We've got a couple of spies embedded at the Missoula county Republicans' caucus. They should be posting soon...but here are some observations.

Apparently, they just started voting after the initial speeches from the candidates' representatives -- including one from a McCain supporter, which was booed. Why?

"I have to tell the rest of the speakers," said the suppoter, "keep it short, stupid, we still have to vote..."

There are a lot of Ron Paul supporters at the Missoula caucus, mostly young college students.

A quick glance at the caucus results show Romney extending his lead, now by three points. Still, none of the larger counties have reported.

If McCain manages to win the MT caucus, then it'll be a little slap to Romney's campaign. Right now, Romney has the big mo'.

Paul, BTW, is running fourth in the caucus behind Huckabee. Disappointing, given the buzz that he had a chance to take the state.

(OK goes to McCain, says CNN.)

8:02 pm

The Montana Republican Party is hosting its caucus results on its site. So far, with nearly 19 percent of counties reporting, McCain leads with 34 percent to Romney's 33 percent.

Wait! A new update! Romney has taken the lead, and now has a one-point lead over McCain, with 22 of 56 counties reporting!

7:50 pm

CNN projects NJ and MA going to Clinton.

Josh Marshall:

Chris Matthews is actually making a pretty solid point. And one that's going to be difficult one for McCain to deal with. That is, the states McCain is winning are ones Republican seldom win in general elections. So far our tally has Delaware, Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey and New York. Basically he's taking the Democratic base.

Obama seems to be doing the same thing. He's winning big in ID, KS, AL, ND. Question: is this bad, or good for Obama & McCain?

7:42 pm

So far, these are the states CNN has called:

Obama: AL, DE, IL, and GA
Clinton: NY, TN, AR,  and OK

So far, it's looking like Super Tuesday is a deadlock on the Democratic side...

McCain: NY, DE, NJ, CT, IL
Huckabee: AR
Romney: MA

McCain's starting to pile up the delegates...

7:27 pm

For those of you interested, the results of my home town -- Lanesborough, Massachusetts -- are in! Let's see...on the Democratic side, it's Clinton with 332, Obama with 255, Edwards with 11, and "no preference" with 1; on the Republican side, McCain took 91 votes, Romney 52, Huckabee 14, Paul 8, "no preference" with 5, and Giuliani with 1.

There you go. For what it's worth, Lanesborough is fairly rural and fairly conservative...

7:03 pm

In an article on Mitt Romney's projected win in Massachusetts, there's this lovely quote:

With 170 delegates, California could be the make-or-break state and Romney hopes his conservative credentials will resonate with voters there. Romney was also counting on the support from Utah and Montana.

"I think what you're seeing in our party is that there's a coalescing of support around my candidacy because a lot of people don't want to take the left turn that would be represented by John McCain becoming our nominee," Romney said Tuesday.

Ouch! How are the Montana GOPers going to break the news of Ron Paul's triumph in Judith Basin county?

6:48 pm

The Tribune earlier reported the first results for the Montana caucus: the Judith Basin county Republicans tabbed Ron Paul. The Judith Basin County caucus met this afternoon...

6:43pm

Mark Blumenthal is live-blogging Super Tuesday results along with the evolving exit poll data.

Blumenthal:

Keep in mind that for the first few hours after the polls close these will be survey based estimates, and surveys are subject to error (some random, some from other sources).

Pollster.com's exit poll data has Obama with AL, CT, DE, IL, and MA; Clinton with MO, NJ, OK, and TN. Remember, the Democratic races are awarded delegates proportionally by votes, so some of these races (MA, e.g.) may not represent much of a difference in delegates.

Pollster.com's poll data has Huckabee with GA, AL, and TN; McCain with IL, MO, CT, and NJ; Romney with MA.

CNN has declared TN, AR, and OK for Clinton; IL and GA for Obama. On the GOP side, CNN has declared AR for Huckabee; MA for Romney; and CT, NJ, and IL for McCain.
