Krayton Kerns Mourns Loss of Koopman and Sinrud

by: Matt Singer

Thu Apr 10, 2008 at 11:45:47 AM MST

Here's an interesting letter: Rep. Krayton Kerns takes up the names of Roger Koopman and John Sinrud and compares them to Vietnam Veterans who got unfairly picked on.

For those keeping score at home, this is the second insane comparison between John Sinrud's woes and those of men and women serving our country in warzones.

Beyond that, the letter is simply inane, including quotes like this, "Politics is truly a blood sport."

No. It's not Mr. Kerns. Neither Roger Koopman nor John Sinrud got shot at in the line of duty.

Honestly, Martyrs appear to be a dime a dozen in the GOP House ranks.

I don't know if you saw it, but the first comment under the story was spot on:

I dont't think Rep. Kerns will be missed when he is voted out of office this fall.

Rather than represent Laurelites he seems to think that his status as state representative anoints him as some kind of messiah sent here to enlighten us all and save us from the evils of those who oppose his political philosophy. And further, he thinks he has the right to belittle and demean any who disagree with him.

Laurel is a great little city. But it has both problems and opportunities. What we need are political leaders at all levels who can build consensus to facilitate efforts like that - not zealots intent on dividing up the world into enemy camps based on whether or not they agree with their politics .

When Emily Eaton was our representative, her columns showed real understanding of the issues and intricacies of state and local government. I have seen nothing like this from Dr. Kerns - only his strange ideological ramblings and attempts to polarize.

Further , Dr. Kerns does not represent us very well . He apparently spent most of the last session conspiring with party leader Micheal Lange and the cadre of obstructionists to throw legislative hand grenades , rather than work for progressive compromise solutions .

For example , even though most of the families in and around Laurel hunt and fish, Kerns voting score on issues affecting hunting, angling, and protection of wildlife resources was only 13%. For specific examples , he voted to oppose protection of water flows in the Big Horn river, and even voted against bringing the bridge stream access bill to the floor for a vote.

That about sums it up.
