Corey Stapleton: "Integrity" is Being Party Line

by: Matt Singer

Wed Jan 03, 2007 at 19:12:25 PM MST

Sen. Corey Stapleton said Sam Kitzenberg hurt the "integrity" of Montana's state senate by switching parties. I've written before about why a party switch really isn't a big deal, especially in the context of how fluidly Republicans have viewed party affiliation when it suits them. The Republicans also did everything in their power to make sure Sam felt unwelcome in their party. Now they call him unethical for leaving.

When these clowns say Sam Kitzenberg lacks integrity for not sticking to his party line, it sounds like a bully criticizing someone half his weight for lacking integrity for not taking any more abuse. It's obscene.

And I'll say this one last time -- before I buy that anyone in Sam's district really feels betrayed, I need to hear it from someone in Sam's district -- not from a Republican shill in Helena. Maybe reporters should look for that, too, before they let Corey Stapleton of Billings decide whether or not Sam is doing right by his constituents.

think that it was a complete and criminal waste of state government time for Stapleton to air his views on the floor of the MT Senate. Corey, you are the lowest of the low!

It was ridiculous. I couldn't believe that he was airing out his party's dirty laundry on the floor the Montana State Senate. Talk about the epitome of integrity. I recall Corey saying something about today being the last time he (and possibly his party) would dredge up this crap. Leader Williams reminded them during a few of her words. Hopefully they'll leave it alone or at least come to terms that the Republican Party left Sam Kitzenberg long before he left them.

I'm truly not qualified to say whether airing this during opening day this way was appropriate, although I don't really think so. I did find it typical that in his IR article today, Mr. Dennison failed to mention that Sam Kitzenberg (D-SD 18) was hired by the Schweitzer administration for an unadvertised position...

On another note....

"And I'll say this one last time -- before I buy that anyone in Sam's district really feels betrayed, I need to hear it from someone in Sam's district -- not from a Republican shill in Helena. "

Personally, if I was one of the 6362 folks who voted for Republican Sam Kitzenberg in 2004 and he changed parties, I’d be a bit miffed... but that's just me... I wouldn't look for Mr. Dennison to go hunting for disgruntled Sam Kitzenberg constituents soon.

Stapelton is the kind of guy that tries to send his food back to the kitchen at Wendy's.  There isn't enough grease in the world to silence that squeeky wheel.

I hate saying this because it's gonna sound like a threat, but I once heard someone say "The squeaky wheel gets the grease, but sometimes you just have to replace the wheel."
