Burns crony raising money for Bullock?

I was on Steve Bullock's website yesterday and came across a link to a fundraiser in Butte hosted by Don Peoples. I seem to remember Peoples as a big Burns supporter in '06.

A little research on opensecrets revealed that Peoples has given over $13,000 to Republicans in the last two election cycles alone. The search I did is here:

Peoples also wrote a letter to the editor of the Butte Standard on August 27, 2006 publicly opposing Tester and suggesting that he would be worse for the Butte economy than Burns.

He's spent a lot of money trying to defeat good Democrats. Why is Bullock even touching this guy?

Anyone care to explain this one? (0.00 / 0)
And am still waiting on this - Steve failed to explain his ties with Steptoe and Johnson during the Missoula forum as promised- - -

Wow..  (4.00 / 1)
...it can be a cold, cruel world here at LITW.  Tomorrow night there is an AG candidate forum in Missoula.  While I appreciate you do not all live in Missoula, I would be happy to spend some time afterwards discussing who/what Steptoe is, what work I did while I was there, what work I did not do while I was there, why I was there in the first place, and what decisions I made when I left.  I would also be happy to discuss any other matters I have worked on as a lawyer.  Finally, we can also talk about contributors, specifically or as a group.  Thanks for your interest in the race.

this does seem.... (0.00 / 0)
...a little off. Don Peoples was a Democrat but went turncoat in 06 for Burns. Appears he was spending lots of money on Republican candidates/committees before then too I guess.

The perils of voting early (0.00 / 0)
Seems to me this whole discussion on Peoples raising money for Bullock as well as the on-going wait for his explanation of what he did for Steptoe in DC makes a good case for not voting early and waiting for the campaigns to play out with this kind of investigative info.

When I saw Steve's post with his offer to explain what he did in DC, I thought it was great.  Many people have asked me about it and I always say the same thing: "I have no idea what Steve Bullock did in DC."

So, do we get to know anytime soon?  Personally, I'd love to hear Steve's explanation and I think it would help people who keep hearing the underbuzz, the implications of some kind of not-so-good stuff, and either remove that from the campaign with a straight up explanation or lay it out and let folks make up their own minds as to whether it is anything to be concerned about. Like I said, I don't know, and I'm sure many others don't know, either.

One thing I'm not buying though, and that's the rap that lawyers represent clients strictly as a professional obligation -- with no ties to their personal beliefs.  Sorry, folks, but we all face those decisions in our personal lives.  You can't work for the bums and claim to be an angel.  We are all responsible for our professional -- as well as our personal -- choices.

Personal Responsibility (0.00 / 0)
This is a subject which should be explored further. Mr Bullock worked for Steptoe from 2001-2004, the heart of the Bush years.  Dick Cheney's chief legal counsel recently went back to Steptoe.  This firm is hip deep with the muck in the current administration.  Many of that firm's lawyers have maxed out to the tune of ten grand for Mr Bullock.  Essentially he's buying the Montana AG race with Republican money.  There should be consequences for the people you choose to associate with, in this case the worst administration in our history.
