Baucus Bows to Bush/K Street “Free” Trade Agenda On First Day of New Congress?

This one is a gem:

At a time when our country's competitive strength depends increasingly on an aggressive trade policy, Americans are far less willing to embrace one. Many equate trade and globalization with ballooning deficits, stagnating wages and layoffs. Trade policies need to be fair Max - and to be fair, we've got to be playing on an even playing field.  The unfair advantage that places like China get from stomping on basic human rights with forced 100 hour work weeks, pennies in wages, little quality of life assurances and unregulated pollution of Mother Earth make free trade something that does turn into ballooning deficits and stagnating wages for U.S. citizens. 

And giving Chimpman authoritarian reign over the decision making of that process - a man who has shown that he is more than happy to make decisions irrespective of both public opinion and the best collective non-partisan advice that is available to him - is dangerous and irresponsible.

We know where Chimpman's brains are, but I ask - Where are yours?

Timing and substance of the Op Ed was sad (4.00 / 1)

The tipping point was "Dubai"Ports Deal.  People called for change.  Those who ran on strong "fair" trade platforms won, in most cases, by quite a lot.  To doggedly hold onto policies that only benefit the corporations and giving back nothing to the nation is almost crimminal.  Thank goodness the House will have hearings.  Max is way out of step with majority of Americans. Trade deals like the one in Jordan where workers have to work 48 hour shifts with no breaks.  Where they bring in immigrants and take their passports away?  So they can make clothes sold at Wal-Mart and J.C. Penney?  "Blood Clothing" instead of diamonds.  Our technology advantage is going away.  Our medical researchers are leaving for India.  The cynicism in the op ed piece is breathtaking.  Yeh, retrain a Ph.D in engineering to stack sweaters at the Gap.  Great solution.
