This seems to be a pattern in the Republican caucus (0.00 / 0)

I remember last session, Rep. Wagman's public comments, which were, minimally, demeaning to Native Americans.  And of course we need not go over Burns' comments over the years.  Recently there was Butcher; and now this.  These kind of comment are highly offensive.  Stapleton needs to apologize publicly.

Quit being so damn PC and eager to be offended and lighten up.  He didn't say anything derogatory about blacks but you had to add the "Cracker" to his name.

This is a big bunch of nothing.

I always took "cracker" as a term for someone who was hickish and ignorant. Senator Stapleton's remarks do nothing but back that definition.

My goodness - I've never been accused of being PC (much less "damn" PC) and I am far from ever being offended on just about every subject.  Andy, you are too cute for words.  Since I know you are not totally unfortunate intellectually, I am disappointed that you had a knee-jerk response in your defense of Sen. Stapleton's remark.  Of course he said something derogatory about African-Americans.  As I'm sure you are aware, currently (since the 70s), the word "Negro" is considered acceptable in limited usage (historically and older organizations), but otherwise suggests a racist nuance.  The Senator is 39, born and raised in a culture that finds the usage as intended by the Senator as (let's be generous here) racially insensitive.  It's all in the context.  And since there is not one African-American currently serving in the Montana Legislature, a reference to such in what can only be interpreted in the best light as a poor choice of words was not worthy of a legislative leader.

In the meantime, if you do not believe me, I would be more than happy to accompany you to a bar in South Central LA in order to test my position.  You can make this remark (or something similar) and I will do my best to protect you.
