Good Thing Supporting the Troops Just Means Supporting the Mission

Because otherwise this President would be considered very unsupportive.

Honestly, read this article.

Shameful (0.00 / 0)
As long as your rhetoric on the war is right, the substance doesn't matter. The condition those soldiers live in are shameful reminders of this President's disregard for the people he claims to support.

Tell it.......... (0.00 / 0)
to the shipmates of the 17 sailors of the U.S.S. Cole who perished while Clinton had pizza delivered to the Oval Office by an intern.  Explain to them why they had to fuel in that God forsaken terrorist hellhole in Yemen.  Explain to them why Clinton mothballed the oilers that could have replenished their ship at sea.

Sad (4.00 / 1)
So the best defense of the President you can muster is a tired attack on Bill Clinton?

Defend this. Don't divert attention. Don't obfuscate. Defend this President, and his defend his treatment of veterans.

I don't know.... (0.00 / 0)
I'm a veteran of 26 years of service and I can't claim any mistreatment at all from this president.  I disagree with him on many issues particularly in the enforcement of our borders and his appeasement with the appeasers from the democrat party, but as far as his treatment of veterans is concerned I have no complaints.  I served from the Eisenhower presidency through the Carter presidency and worst treatment I received was always when a democrat was president. That same scenario has continued in my retirement years. I dread when the democrats are in control of anything and particularly now with the leftist extremists in control of the party.  Appeasers, wimps and here kitty kitty best describes the present day democrat party.

Military Service in the 90s (0.00 / 0)
I too was in active duty while Clinton was in office.  Six years in the 90s then 2 years under Bush. I think Clinton treated us far better.  In the 90s our barracks and post facilities were always top notch, as soon as Bush took office funding for "comfort" items started being cut.  I've seen posts in the last couple years that were really nice in the 90s and now they almost look like a slum.

A big difference between the Clinton and Bush administrations was how they used the military.  Clinton had us doing Peace Keeping Missions, Humanitarian Aid Programs, Disaster Relief and kept our tours no more then a year for the most part.  How has Bush used and abused our military in contrast?  Long extended tours, cuts in post facilities, activating poorly equipped guard and reservist units.  I voted for Bush in 2000 absentee from Louisiana and I've regretted it ever since.

This is no military I know.  It's Meals on Wheels. Did ya sell Hillary's cookies too? Thank God, in Greyhound, I'm gone....  Oh, and thank you for your service.  You're the absolute first military type that has spoken of the Clinton military in this light. Maybe everyone that feels like you do with take heart in another "Clinton Military" possibility with the election of Hillary in 08.  Perish the friggen thought.

Nothing more than neocon talking points? (0.00 / 0)
old, pointless talking points, at that?

Aren't you getting tired yet?

[ Parent ]
He never gets tired. (0.00 / 0)
It's the same old BS. Honestly, squid, please be honest here; how can you really defend Bush by attacking Clinton? I haven't heard anyone say that Bush has done these things while everyone else is a saint. It doesn't happen. No ones says Clinton was perfect and he ought to be held accountable for his administration dropping the ball. But we aren't talking about him. Keep it on Bush. Defend him. And if you can't then shut up.

See my post above... (0.00 / 0)
and if that isn't good enough for ya, please note the mistletoe I have dangling from the center belt loop of my trousers and act accordingly. That goes for Pogie and all the rest of you we can do so much better but have yet to prove it Bush hating democrats. Shut up you say, well screw you and the donkey you rode in on.  Post your military service resume and if it trumps mine I will shut up.

[ Parent ]
Anywho... (0.00 / 0)
So the only people who get to have a say so in military matters are those who served? What the hell is the President doing messing with it? I thank you for your service. I myself haven't had the pleasure, but I don't think that it should bar me from expressing the way I see the way things are. That's not what we are talking about here. We are talking about you switching it on to Clinton and the mistakes then when we are talking about the mistakes now.

Here's a suggestion squidly (0.00 / 0)
instead of infusing empty pointless arguments into other people's diaries, why don't you post a diary of your own, with all the facts you can muster, and put it out there for all to see?  Can't you do that?

My father is a Marine veteran of WWII. He volunteered after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, lying about his age (he had just turned 16.) He is a decorated disabled Vet.  While your individual experience with the VA may be true, my father, who tried to utilize the VA for medical care when he had a wife, and me and my 4 brothers to support (instead of paying a deductable) could tell you a vastly different story, none too different that the one Matt cites above. He gave up expecting anything from them then, and expects nothing in the future.

Your comments are about as meaningful as the band-aid care this administration is putting on the medical care of its veterans.

Sigh (0.00 / 0)
High quality arguments, as always. So, to be clear, you're totally comfortable with the conditions described in the article?

[ Parent ]
Did you even... (4.00 / 1)
read the article that was the subject of the post, or did you just decide to be an agitator, squid? The bombing of the Cole was a tragedy, but our continued policy in Iraq and how we are treating our wounded soldiers from the conflict, is more than a tragedy. Bush says he speaks for the troops, but he only speaks for his own narrow minded dogma. This president, who (if military service is ever so important to you) went AWOL from the national guard during Vietnam, has been a complete failure. Bill Clinton was 500 times a better commander-in-chief if, for no other reason, than there was a mind at work in Clinton. I have seen no evidence of self reflection in Shrub. Nothing that suggests to me that he is anything more than a smirking chimp, a puppet for darker men (Dick Cheney also did not serve one day in Uniform, since you feel compelled to list MIlitary service), or, perhaps worst of all, a callous and unfeeling human being that is not stupid but rather simply heartless
Our troops are serving honorably under an administration that makes the Keystone Cops look competant. The planning and execution of this war makes me long for the nuance of the Three Stooges. History will show that President Bush, Jr. has been one of the worst, if not the worst, president in american history. Never since the Civil War has our nation been more divided. Not since the slave appeasers before the Civil War have we had leaders more willing to place their heads in the ground about a major calamity facing our nation and our world (Global Warming). Not since the Japanese Internment Camps of World War II (a travesty that happened on the watch of a democratic president I will admit) have our civil liberties hung from such a precarous thread. When will members of the republica party stop amking excuses for this man, impeach the SOB (and his little Dick too) and say to the American people "We are so sorry we ever nominated him... really, Our Bad!"

[ Parent ]
He has shown no signs of it.. (0.00 / 0)
I have seen no evidence of self reflection in Shrub.

Remember that he "sleeps well at night"...along with the smirk on his face as he said it?

The only evidence I've seen is anti-social psychopathic tendencies, IMO.

Oh... (0.00 / 0)
and as far as the Mistletoe on your belt... if that is how you get dates, I guess if it works, more power to ya. But I find asking a lady (or gentleman if you prefer) out for a nice meal, a little wine, some dancing, pretty much can do the same thing, and you don't look so silly. Just my 2 cents.

Alex, don't EVEN go there! (0.00 / 0)
You don't WANNA know about the courtship rituals of young lonely sailors forced to cohabitate for long periods of time at sea with only OTHER sailors to comfort them!  When viewed in this context, you can see why Tadpole might be just a wee bit screwed up in his opinions.  He is suffering from PTSES, or Post Traumatic Sexual Encounters at Sea!  I'm sure that his mistletoe references dredges up all those painful memories for him!
P.S.  Why is Loony Cooney trying to make me wear a friggin' SEATBELT?!  What the hell is WRONG with these nannystate Dems?!!  Leave my damn guns, cars, motorcyles the hell alone!  No WONDER people are turning to the rightwing nutjobs!  How can Loony Cooney even THINK about allowing a cop to stop me for not wearing a seatbelt?!  Talk about your professional politician!  I think ol'  mikey loony cooney would be better off takin' a breather from politics for a while and gettin' himself a real job!!!

Well.... (0.00 / 0)
good morning, Ranger.  Somebody kick the cow turd you're living under over?  You know the way you talk about sex at sea one would think you had a crow on your arm instead of the outline where a single chevron used to be.  How many ships, I ask, did you serve on? And please, Larry, when you finally publish your sex at sea and in the foxhole novel, send me an autographed copy with your paw print duly notarized.

First of all... (0.00 / 0)
since this article did appear in the Washington Compost, I would certainly want a second opinion.  If, in fact, all this were gospel then more than one man and more than one political party is to blame.  I would blame the whole establishment of rotten politicians in Washington since this would be going on right under their noses.

Secondly, I would wonder, if these conditions do exist, why aren't the democrats, who take every other opportunity to chastise and undermine the present administration, bringing this to the forefront and screaming it from the floors of both the House and the Senate?  Why aren't the democrats, since they control both houses, holding hearings on this travesty?  Why, because in reality they could give a crap less about these wounded soldiers since they despise and hold them in contempt anyway, and are only interested in using the plight of our wounded to further the democrat political agenda.  Which makes me wonder, since this would be a formidable tool against the Bush Administration, why aren't they using it as we speak?

Lastly, you can call this an illegal war all you want, but let's not forget that most democrats voted for it and long before Bush was elected and took office were beating the drums of war against Saddam.

That was funny... (0.00 / 0)
George Bush isn't to blame for anything because he got it passed checks and balances? Oh you crack me up! How do you do this? How does your defense of Bush include both saying the Democrats were stupid in checking him with their power, and then calling them cowards and unpatriotic when they do? You're telling them they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. And it's childish. For a man who has served since President Eisenhower I would think you can exucute a better arguement then "I know you are, but what am I?"

my piece (0.00 / 0)
over at montananetroots actually has some other links backing up the basic premise - that the Bush administration doesn't give a damn.  They come from a few different sources - and even one neoncon squid!  So have at it, will ya.

I warn you, though...you'll actually have to read parts of the article, cause I got them in there.....

Mr. Squid I object... (4.00 / 1)
I really don't see how you can continue to play anyone who disagrees with this war as a "leftist extremist."  I also don't know how you possibly defend the negligence of this administration.  All I see is a complete lack of critical thinking on your part.  There are good Republicans in this country, like my father and my grandfather, a World War II veteran, just two name the two I look up to the most.  They don't agree with this war anymore, either.  This administration is NOT in keeping with the Republican values I was raised to uphold.  Where is the respect for personal privacy?  Where is the fiscal responsibility?  Where is the support of small business and entrepreneurship?  It is nowhere to be found, while our Executive branch continues to fleece the pockets of their corporate friends and send our soldiers, some of whom are my very good friends, to die in a war that is not ever going to be won.  I will say one thing about President Clinton.  At least when he shamed himself (and he certainly did), he had the guts to stand up and say he was wrong and apologize.  This president has lied to the American people in a much worse way and lives continue to be lost because of it.  I think you need to remember what you served your country to protect.  This is no longer a political issue, it is a moral issue.  Why don't you call the veterans who fought in this war and now disagree with it "extremists?"  The real extremist here is you, sir.

One thing's for sure.... (0.00 / 0)
nobody has ever called me a moderate.  Look, I have no quarrel with those who oppose the war, only those politicians who use their opposition to promote their own political careers and in doing so embolden our enemies by giving aid and comfort to them.  Just look at what the democrat party front runner presidential candidates are doing. That female contender is all over the friggen place and I truly believe Dick Morris was right when he said Hillary lies about everything.

Okay, since Matt is piling on topics at the rate of one every nanosecond I'll terminate my end of this by saying that Bush is a republican but in my opinion not a conservative one.  I've already admitted to having issues with him, but I feel his decision on Iraq was correct and all the Monday morning quarterbacking by the democrats won't change the fact that they were instrumental in making the decision to go there, but now they have changed course and are invested in defeat because it suits their political purpose.

You've listed a multitude of republican values that have been  disposed of, so to speak, by the Bush Administration and I can only wonder where in the democrat party, dominated by the leftists, have you re-discovered those values?

Ex-president Clinton said that he did not have sex with that woman, Ms Lewinski.  Where in that statement do you find an admission and apology?  I also found no apologies when he was interviewed by Mr. Wallace, only finger pointing and blame shifting.  He couldn't even accept responsibility for what happened at Waco.  He pushed it off on poor incompetent Janet Reno.
