The CBO scores the public option...

by: Jay Stevens

Check it out:

According to a pair of Capitol Hill sources, preliminary estimates from the Congressional Budget Office suggest that a strong public option--the kind that the House of Representatives is putting in its reform bill--should net somewhere in the neighborhood of $150 billion in savings over ten years.

Let's see. A strong public option is wildly popular...and it would actually raise revenue? Something tells me though that Republicans and conservative Democrats will still oppose it...

I just KNOW we can count on Max to do the right thing.... (0.00 / 0)
I love reading this sort of thing from Max:
He also said a majority of the senators on the Finance Committee do not favor a "pure public option," which is the government-run insurance plan that would compete with private insurers.

They'd like to find a way to offer an alternative plan that somehow is run by the private sector or a private entity, such as a nonprofit cooperative, he said.

Of course, if it was up to Max by himself I'm sure he'd represent the overwhelming will of his constituents, which is to include a strong public option, but the problem is the majority of the rest of the committee....

And where is the conservative media (0.00 / 0)
covering this piece of news? Nowhere. They'd much rather be covering a CBO report that decries the PO as being too expensive.

Of course the rightwing of the Senate--from Baucus on over--will be unfazed.

This sort of news will test the theory that reform is just a smokescreen for those Senators and Congresspeople that want to continue on with the status quo. Pour more tax dollars into the private sector as inefficiently as possible to create the illusion of doing something--which they are: making sure their campaign contributions keep on keepin' on from their medical and insurance industry puppeteers, and that they maintain their positions of power.

Bernie Sanders (4.00 / 1)
says we would save $400 billion a year in administrative costs with a single payer system...

What? (0.00 / 0)
...and it would actually raise revenue?

Is "saving" the same as raising revenue now?

It's time. AX MAX (4.00 / 1)
ABM, Anybody But Max, is my new mantra.  I'm done with Mini Baucus.  He is NOT "montana's senator".  He is industry's senator, pure and simple.  When even Republican state senator and ex-govenor candidate Bob Brown comes out in support of single payer and Mini can't, you just KNOW it's time to ax this dufus sumbitch.  And let's face it.  Baucus is a dufus, but at least he was OUR dufus.  That's no longer good enough.  I  will  never vote for dufus boy again.  Hell, I didn't last time.  I voted for Kelleher.
