Max Baucus has invited all of us to a Jon Tester fundraiser at his ranch near Helena on August 8. We can choose to seize the weekend news cycle just by showing up with 1000 or more people.
Tester's camp anticipates 300-400 Montana Democrats at the $50 per head fundraiser. It will be easy to outnumber Max's supporters at his own event. The national press will be watching the public option war intensely as the pols hear it from the people back home during the August vacation. We can make this by far the loudest thing Max hears while back home this year, and the exposure a mass gathering on Max's front lawn would generate in the national press would be priceless. And boy, would Jon Tester owe us...We have a day or two to make a decision on this, and then a week to make it happen. I'm good for a $50 donation to Tester and $100 to defray travel costs for any kos or fdl notable to make the trip and represent us. Please comment below if you think this is a good use of our available resources, including whether you can organize in your group or area.

Can you be there? Can we organize a newsworthy presence by August 8? Who's close to Helena? Anyone have stilts, giant puppets, megaphones, or a dancing bear? We need organizers; people to coordinate carpooling, bottled water, and garbage bags (not just for trash; if it rains, we cut them into ponchos). Also, not that I expect things will get that bad, we need to have phone numbers for the local ACLU, and an honest bail-bondsman. (You write the phone numbers on your arm. I know, I know, but it's not paranoia, just planning for the worst.) E-mail me if you're interested. |
