Baucus helps defeat both public option amendments

by: Jay Stevens

Tue Sep 29, 2009 at 15:11:49 PM MST

There they go, the two public option amendments.

Baucus, Conrad, Carper, Lincoln, and Nelson voted against Sen. Rockefeller's public option amdendment.

Baucus, Lincoln, and Conrad voted against Sen. Schumer's public option amendment.

Baucus' statements about the Rockefeller amendment are below the fold.

One of Baucus' reasons for rejecting the public option was his belief that there aren't enough votes in the Senate to pass a healthcare bill with the public option. But Sen. Harkin and others maintain there are 51 votes for the public option -- obviously Baucus means that one or more Democrats would join a Republican filibuster.

Now we have to single out those Senators and put massive pressure on them.

In the meantime, we need to support the Progressive House Caucus and ensure they stick to their promise to vote against any bill without the public option. And we can fund the ad attacking Baucus over the public option.

Reform without the public option is not reform.

Just guessing (0.00 / 0)
Since I was off the air, I don't know for certain, but ...

I'm guessing the comment thread began with a troll from Rusty, and the comments thereafter were 'replies' to it.  When Rusty's useless spew was troll rated out of existence, the other comments went with it.

I am actually happy about such a turn of events.

My money is going to the Mad as Hell Doctors, and to Montanans for Single Payer. (0.00 / 0)
Max is in office until 2014. An add now doesn't mean a thing to him, it's an empty meaningless gesture.

I'd rather put my money into reality instead of continuing to chase a  fantasy.

Federal Reserve (0.00 / 0)
The Federal Reserve is being hailed as the prime mover in the bank bailout to avoid more bank failures, even though banks are still failing.  Some things nobody knows - the Federal Reserve isn't part of the government; it's actually a private group.  There is little or no Congressional oversight - and this is who prints our money.  Health care reform and the gay marriage debate are great distractions, but the unchecked powers of the Fed are more or less unknown to the people.  Perhaps an audit and reigning in of the Federal Reserve would be a good idea, before Wall Street gets another pay day.

For those of us without health insurance (0.00 / 0)
the debates about health care reform are anything but "great distractions."
