Rehberg Caught Pretending to Support Breast Cancer Awareness While Voting to End Mammogram Coverage

by: Montana Cowgirl

Thu Oct 08, 2009 at 00:00:01 AM MST

This is what I call an online two timing double talking phony.

Congressman Rehberg's hypocrisy reached his Facebook page yesterday when he posted his support for Breast Cancer Awareness month on Facebook.  (Note: You must be a "fan" to see the post.") In reality, Rehberg voted to deprive Montana women of the mammography benefit that makes a patient aware of breast cancer.

If you are looking for someone who epitomizes hypocrisy, look no further than Representative Rehberg.  Montana's lone Congressman voted for H.R. 525 to allow insurance companies not to honor Montana's legal requirement that mammograms be covered, and has recently reiterated his support for allowing insurance companies to purchase insurance across state lines (and therefore ignore Montana laws that assure our benefits).

This is not the first time Congressman Rehberg has tried to take credit for things he voted against.  Most recently, Rehberg made several attempts to claim he understood the need for good-paying jobs in Montana and set up press conferences to take credit for recovery projects in Montana, even though he opposed the jobs and recovery measure.

Jobs Recovery (0.00 / 1)
You mean the jobs recovery bill that has actually increased unemployment?  That the one?

? (0.00 / 0)
You mean the jobs recovery bill that mitigated the loss of jobs? We've already seen the evidence of how "economic stimulus" by tax cut to the wealthy and deregulation works: it got us into this mess. By most accounts the bailout and the stimulus bills blunted what was looking like the worst depression in US history.

can you prove where it "mitigated" the loss of jobs?  the administration's own words were that WITHOUT the bill unemployment would hit 9%.  it's not at 9.8% and we're another trillion in debt by passing it.

really? deregulation got us into this mess?  last i checked it was the left placing the full faith of the govt into lowering banking standards so poor and minorities could have houses, not "deregultion".  honestly, anyone who thinks we live in a deregulated market has no clue.

before claiming how bad it could have been without the bailout and stimulus, provide some actual proof, cause all the actual benchpoints of "how made it could have been" they sold us when the bill was being passed have already been reached.

...the idea that the poor are to blame is an old trope, long disproved.

And that the benchmarks have been reached only shows how bad this thing could have been, that the hyperbole was warranted.

Why do you hate your country, tad?

Rehberg is very good at talking out (0.00 / 0)
both sides of his mouth...

I remember when the stimulus plan was passed and Rehberg came back to Montana and was bad mouthing it...he said it didn't have enough tax cuts and support for small business to suit him....even though it contained the single largest tax cut ever, and put more money in the pocket of working Americans...

Someone feeds Rehberg the latest Republican talking points and he runs with it...the guy has not had an original thought in his life.

Funding for mammograms (0.00 / 0)
My diagnosis of breast cancer, resulting in a complete mastectomy in 2003, was brought to light by a mammogram.  In 2007, I learned that it had metastasized to my bones.  I now carry the diagnosis of Stage IV metastatic breast cancer.

I was always lucky in that I could afford to get my annual mammograms, but I fear for those women who do not have the financial resources to have this vital test annually.

Denny Rehberg is all about keeping the rich rich, or even richer; and the poor poor, or much poorer.  He is a hypocrite if he states that he supports breast cancer awareness, but doesn't support legislation that would increase such awareness.

When it's time for Rehberg's re-election efforts, I hope people remember this as just one more example of his being out-of-touch with the health needs of women in particular, and Montanans in general.
