INVITE: Join Jim Elliott & State Lawmakers On Conf Call TODAY About Anti-Fast Track Campaign

by: davidsirota

Fri Mar 16, 2007 at 08:50:11 AM MST

Please join the Progressive States Network, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, Montana State Senator Jim Elliott and others Friday 3/16 at 1pm EST for this important conference call about the national state-based campaign to stop President Bush's request to reauthorize "fast track" trade authority - the authority that allows presidents to strip "free" trade deals of all labor, human rights and environmental standards. As you may have heard, a new ad campaign has launched in Montana against fast track in the wake of the Montana Senate's powerful anti-fast track resolution. This fight is just starting to heat up across the country. The call-in info is in the extended entry in the media advisory sent out by the Progressive States Network today.

INVITE: Join Sen. Sanders & State Legislators On Conf Call FRIDAY About Fast Track Campaign

On Friday, March 16th at 1pm EST, the Progressive States Network will be sponsoring a conference call to discuss the campaign for state resolutions opposing "fast track" reauthorization and how states can make their voices heard in the trade debate. (see here for more).

The call is open to the media and the public. Speakers on the call include U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who is leading the fight against fast track reauthorization in Congress; Montana State Senator Jim Elliott, who recently passed an anti-fast track resolution through the Montana senate by a wide bipartisan margin; and representatives from organizations active on trade issues like Public Citizen and the AFL-CIO, all of whom have been outspoken on the danger of federal trade deals undercutting state authority to promote good jobs and safe communities.

The call will be a chance to discuss both the language used in the resolution opposing fast track that was recently approved by the Montana State Senate, how we can mobilize to introduce and pass additional resolutions in other states, and how state actions can have an impact on decisions being made in the US Congress
