Rehberg to challenge Tester in 2012?

by: Jay Stevens

Fri Nov 06, 2009 at 10:11:48 AM MST

Did Montana's 2012 Senate race begin?

Montana Rep. Dennis Rehberg met with Republican recruiters about a 2012 Senate run against Democrat Jon Tester on Thursday.

Rehberg, who was seen exiting the National Republican Senatorial Committee's Capitol Hill headquarters Thursday morning, is the state's lone representative in the House.

There's mutual interest between Rehberg and NRSC officials, according to a source familiar with both sides.

Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) said Thursday night that Tester's represented his constituents well and will be formidable when he seeks re-election in three years.

"I don't think it would be wise" to challenge him, Baucus said.

Representative or Senator ? (0.00 / 0)

I don't know if it'd make much difference to Montana -

Wise to challenge Tester ?

Uh - Yes - he's got 'one-term' written all over him.

His own far-left base wasn't too happy with him for not keeping any of his pledges, but I'd guess they'll forgive him by 2012.

I can call this prospective race already - Rehberg 59-41.

Thanks for making me laugh

I like your numbers, Eric (0.00 / 0)
Except it will be Tester 59-41.  Bets?

Denny for Senate? (0.00 / 0)
I'd be ok with Rehberg in the senate - if he can make it through his 2010 race - AJ Otjen will hopefully turn out to be a formidable primary opponent & if not he'll have some work ahead of him regardless his general opponent.

I'm for Denny running for senate as long as he can stay sober, off a horse, and out of a boat he might actually have a chance.
