Debunking Ed Butcher

by: Matt Singer

Mon Mar 19, 2007 at 21:01:44 PM MST

Ed Kemmick wrestles with Ed Butcher's latest stupidity -- that advocates of Indian Education for All are semi-literate and that pre-1492 Native Americans were only semi-verbal.

The biggest problem with Butcher's comments isn't that they're offensive. It's that they're wrong.

Unsurprisingly, Butcher is blaming Democrats for the whole thing, since his "private" email to a constituent got forwarded.

Fantastic! (0.00 / 0)
Nothing like a racist elected official running their mouth for too-long on the record.  If you read the quotes from his original email, you can almost imagine yourself overhearing this conversation at a republican fundraiser --minus the ruckus roar of laughter.

Debunking Ed Butcher (0.00 / 0)
Have you noticed that Representative Butcher's email address is SENATORbutcher@aftco.net?  So much for truth in advertising.

This truly bad news comes from a member of the Missoula delegation who suggests that Ed Butcher is likely to be replaced by his son -- who might be even worse.

Butcher's insane stand on the Indian Education for All proposal confirms the desperate need for legislation that will help remove the demeaning stereotypes about Native Peoples which Butcher professes. The only way to assure that those stereotypes are not passed on to future generations is to sweep them away with the broom of enlightenment through education.

But remember, (0.00 / 0)
He was a Senator, serving in the 2001 and 2003 sessions, representing SD 47.

I was in a class that had John Mercer as a guest speaker. Someone refered to him as Chairman Mercer. His reply was, "I don't hold that title anymore, but you can call me Mr. Speaker." I guess we choose which title we want.
