Montana Military Family Relief Fund Dying in Committee, GOP Blocks Blast Motion

by: Matt Singer

Fri Mar 23, 2007 at 15:17:23 PM MST

Rep. Julie French is sponsoring a bill to help families of deployed Montanans. The money goes to families in need and families that lose someone to the war.

Unfortunately, the Republicans aren't giving the bill a chance. It had a hearing two months ago and has never come up for executive action.

Why is that?

I have no idea. It might be because local Limbaugh Dave Berg attacked it for being akin to Saddam Hussein paying suicide bombers (a more malicious attack on Montana soldiers is tough to contemplate).

But you'd think John Sinrud, chair of the Appropriations Committee where it is languishing, would do something about it.

After all, Rep. Sinrud knows something about the difficulty of deployment. At least, I assume he does since his wife once compared his getting called into special session with the plight of a soldier or sailor being away for the holiday season.

Rep. Julie French made a blast motion today to get the bill out of committee and on to the floor. That motion died on a party line vote.

That says something about Republican priorities this session.

That says a great deal ... (0.00 / 0)
about the Republican priorities this session.

Here is a list of all on the Appropriations Committee (0.00 / 0)
Send 'em a letter, shoot 'em an email, hell - put an open letter to all of them up to the editor of your local paper....tell them to get this bill up to the House.

Representative Janna Taylor, Chairman
Senator Lane Larson, Vice Chairman
Representative Bill McChesney
Senator Rick Laible
Representative Jon Sesso
Senator Corey Stapleton
Representative John Sinrud
Senator Carol Williams

I'll go futher and dare say that if you have a Republican rep in the House, keep in mind that they voted NO today to moving this up to a second reading.....Write them or call them and ask them "Why don't you support Montana National Guard troops?  Why did you vote against HB 179 on Friday?"

Hey Careful (0.00 / 0)
think before a post like that.  The Senators on this subcommittee (D's & R's) have no vote to get the bill to the floor or off the table.  One can go to the legislative website and find the Full appropriation committee (house) members.

Speaking of the military, (0.00 / 0)
I tried to rent a copy of the Dixie Chicks' movie, Shut Up and Sing.  First I called Hastings here in GF.  NO COPIES TO RENT! No reason given as to why. They had three copies to buy though, and I'll buy one to support the Chicks.  I then called Video Trek, and I was told that GF is a military town, so they didn't want to offend anyone by offering that movie.  Finally I called Blockbuster, and they rent it.  IS THIS NAZI GERMANY?  I can't believe this country any longer!  Osama won!  The people are more afraid of a impotent dry drunk with a wet brain retard AWOLer from texASS than Osama!  An AWOLer who calls himself the Decider!  Well, I guess that I'll just Decider to buy the movie myself!

The military.... (0.00 / 0)
takes care of its' own.  Who needs politicians showing up with empty rhetoric and broken promises in one hand and a knife in the back with the other?  A knife in the back like the democrats did today with their peanuts and spinach for bullets and body armor surrender bill.  If you people really care about helping our troops then look no further than Oliver North and his Freedom Alliance group or the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes.  There are more such groups and I'll guarantee you that few if any liberals are involved.  Few if any Hollywood types unless they're conservatives.  I challenge any of you liberals to provide me with just one liberal organization that has a mission comparable to the two I have listed above.  You give me a name of such an organization and I'll donate to it just like I donate to these two.

Tadpole, (0.00 / 0)
since when are convicted felons heroes??  Oh wait, Olly got pardoned, didn't he.  How convenient.  And Taddy, it seems that the ENTIRE FRIGGIN' COUNTRY has become surrender monkeys!  You're startin' to remind me of them Japanese soldiers who hid in the caves for forty/fifty years after the war.  Have you found a nice cave to live in yet?  If it has electricity, I'll loan you my copy of Shut Up and Sing by the Dixie Chicks!  Come on, you know you like them!!

[ Parent ]
Tell you what.... (0.00 / 0)
Ranger, if this crap keeps up with the democrats in charge we may all need caves.  One things for sure, the Islamic fanatics will be coming after you liberals first, so I'll have some reprieve.  I'll bet your ass they despise the "Dippy Shits" as much as I do.

Hey, Tadpole, (0.00 / 0)
you were in the military, and I was in the military.  And I have a hard time understanding how mrs. sincrud  was so worried bout mr. sincrud going to Helena.  She compared it to him being "deployed" in the military.  And that started me wonderin'.  Why was she worried?  Did sincrud come home with the clap or sumthin'?  I know lots of guys that were deployed that did!  Maybe sincrud got the clap!  That's about the only similar danger between the two that I can see.  Whaddaythink?  One old salt to another!  (well, I wasn't really a salt.  I wanted to be, but I couldn't get in.  Too many guys trying to avoid Nam had the waiting list nine months long!)

Having only been..... (0.00 / 0)
to Helena once in my life I have no idea why the lady would compare going to Helena as a military "deployment" other than the fact that she wasn't going with him.

Sorta (0.00 / 0)
...but what she was getting at mostly was how Gov. Schweitzer was a bad man for ripping their family apart. Her letter was incredibly inappropriate to all people who fight for and serve this country. I can handle a lot of analogies and metaphors, but when someone compares their made up struggles and piss-ass hard times with that of our bravest I get a little ticked. So suffice it to say I think she sucks. She was using real people of merit for her own 50's-esque mellow dramatic crap. Tsk

Wow (0.00 / 0)
So, in all of your intellectual wisdom, youre not equating "might be" with "are."  And, youre taking the statement of one person and making it a trait of the whole group.  Thats stereotyping, and this comming from Mr. "why cant we all just hug and throw our money at the poor."  The substance of this garbage continues to sink.

Huh? (0.00 / 0)
I can't believe you can even say the word stereotype with a straight face.

Oh that's right!  We can't see it!

Shameless Republican robots (0.00 / 0)
I don't know how right wingers brains can handle so much cognitive dissidence without their head exploding. Republicans supporting the troops? Never.

An oldy but a goody is Republican's trying to kill the creation of the G.I. Bill to show gratitude for their service. Many of the benefit programs for veterans were created by Democrats. Show some respect.

This shameful history continues right up to Rehberg trying to kill the Democratic party's recent requirement that units be certified combat ready and fully equipped with the latest body armor before deployment. I thought there was a war going on, but you wouldn't know it from the cavalier behavior of these Repub politicians.

Now the Republicans are sending severely wounded troops back to Iraq to pad the numbers for Bush's "surge."

And when Johnny comes marching home again?
275,000 homeless vets with as many as 500,000 vets a year experiencing temporary homelessness. One quarter of the homeless are vets, vets are twice as likely to become homeless as the rest of us. What have the Repub's done to help? Nothing. They are too busy smearing actual war heroes like Murtha.

In '03, Republicans cut the budget for veteran's health care by $844,000.

Bush's '04 budget called for a $28.8 BILLION dollar cut to veteran's programs. Democrats and veteran's groups opposed it, virtually EVERY Republican supported it.

This is just the very very tip of an enormous iceberg of shameful, hypocritical, lying behavior by the Republicans, and anyone with even one ounce of humanity left can get the facts. The facts, not the fantasy.

Anyone who defends the Republican party's horrible behavior at this point, one of the 29 percenters, is a robot and a hack.

Just ask.... (0.00 / 0)
the troops who they feel supports them.  Then if you want call them stupid like your war "hero" John Kerry did.  John Murtha wouldn't make a pimple on a real hero's ass.  A real war hero wouldn't sit in his Congressional office on his fat ass and call troops in harms way murderers.

I know all about the troops (0.00 / 0)
Tentacles,
In your usual right wing manner you don't respond to the substance of my comment, but pull a total non-sequitur out of your ink sack, confirming my assertion that you're a party loyalist and a hack with no concern with what is right and what is wrong.

Murtha, who your type demonized for not bowing down before the Great Leader, is a strong supporter of the military, and is speaking for the military leadership that won't speak out against the war for a variety of reasons. Your sad type believes that all you need as a flag lapel pin, an "R" in front of your name, and the proclamation, "I support the troops" and that's it. Actions do not speak louder than words to partisans such as yourself.

"War's a nasty business," Murtha said on CBS's "60 Minutes" earlier this year. "It sears the soul. The shadow of friends killed, the shadow of killing people lives with you the rest of your life. So there's no experience like being in combat." Something to subtle and humane for your collection of chickenhawks to ever understand.

While you were mopping decks and chipping barnacles off hulls, Murtha had enlisted in the Corps, become a drill instructor, then an officer candidate and a Captain of the 34th Special Infantry Company in the Marine Corps Reserve. He volunteered for service in Vietnam, unlike your heroes Limbaugh, et al, and served from 66-67. He, also unlike your heroes such as Karl Rove, was highly decorated, earning the Bronze Star with Valor Device, two Purple Hearts, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Upon retirement in 1990, he was again honored with the Navy's Distinguished Service Medal.

Instead of honoring this man's opinion, and other men who also volunteered, yes, including Kerry, as a pitiful online hatchet man, you choose to stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Jean Schmidt, Cheney, Bush, and the rest of the cowardly and sleazy bunch that would toss you into a meat grinder if it further enriched them.

I have know idea how you can live with yourself, but it must involve plenty of Jack Daniel's and Prozac.

Nothing republicans.... (0.00 / 0)
have supposedly not done for our active duty troops and veterans compares to the irreparable harm Jack Murtha, John Kerry, Dick Durbin, Ted Kennedy and other democrats have done to the morale and well being of our fighting forces with their words and actions.

I could give a crap less just how much "chest candy" Jack Murtha has, it's what he has done since he left the military that concerns me.  He's an out an out crook, who, if the price had been right, would have taken a bribe.  Then he snitched on his buddies who did. There's your so-called hero. Duke Cunningham was a real war hero and look where he is now.  Jack Murtha should have probably did some time also. Again, ask the troops whom they feel support them and whom they feel don't.

Thanks for snide remark about my naval service, just about what I would expect from a kool-aide drinking military loathing democrat supporter. Since you're making assumptions, so will I.

George W. Bush is much to liberal for me, but there was absolutely no alternative, since the democrats keep going to the bottom of the barrel for their presidential candidates.  Who the hell is Jean Schmidt?

And............ (0.00 / 0)
Republican Sen. John McCain berated fellow lawmakers for "spending money........

like a drunken sailor." As a former drunken sailor,  I take offense at being compared to anyone in this Congress!

No Jack Daniel's or Prozac for me.  I only drink and ingest the good stuff.....

[ Parent ]
I know about the troops (0.00 / 0)
Your responses aren't very coherent, possibly due to the "good stuff" you refer to. If I hate veterans, I guess I hate myself,  my dad, my grandfather, my two great-uncles, my great-grandfather, several of my great-great-uncles, etc. For example, my great-uncle was in the first wave of bomber pilots to go over to England in early '42 and flew some of the first bombing missions over France when the Luftwaffe was still strong. He was ground killed by a Nazi dive bomber in North Africa. But you would smear his name because he didn't have an "R" before it. In fact, you would smear all of these good men who served for being liberals. Don't pretend you care for veterans when they have to have an "R" before their name.

And by the way, the most liberal administration in the history of the U.S. of A won that war, in less time that it's taken your buddies to screw up this awful invasion of a pathetic, third world nation. Yes, that's right. Liberals won WWII. Big liberals. Tough liberals.

You see, I'm from a long line of army guys. That's a major reason why folks join the military, Tenticles. Family tradition. The above mentioned loyal Americans who served our nation in a time of war, including myself, are of a liberal mind set. So understandably (to the reasonable) I am upset that the Bush administration is dishonoring and crippling the greatest citizen army in the history of the world. Why don't you care?

So naturally I have many friends who are now or have been in the military, they are all liberals. I also know that many military folks are republicans, and I don't care. Their political persuasion acts against their own self interest. That's their problem. They are still American citizens and adults and should act accordingly. Am I getting through to you?

So to get back to your red herring and your effort to avoid the facts: I have talked extensively with current and former military and they believe the republicans don't support them. There. Is that clear enough? Why do you think practically every vet that ran for congress in '06 was running as a democrat? How do you rationalize that? Hmmm? I'm waiting.

You really need to get out more and pay more attention to what's going on, because you come across like you just don't care.

Had the "liberals", .... (0.00 / 0)
back then, behaved liked the liberals of today we would never have won World War II.  They would have done then what they do today, appease, aid and abet our enemies.

So, you have determined that I don't care.  So tell me what's caring about what your liberal leadership in Congress is doing?  What's caring about non-binding resolutions?  What's caring about a funding bill loaded with democrat pork?  What's caring about rhetoric, which you call patriotic opinions, from a prominent democrat comparing our troops to Nazis, from democrats calling them murderers and war criminals?  What's caring about a war "hero" democrat calling them stupid?

I come in contact with many military personnel, both active and retired, and I have yet to have even one of them tell me that they support the democrats and what they are doing in their efforts to promote and accept defeat. If, in fact, military personnel consider the democrats to be the caring and supportive political party, then the worst is about to happen in 2008.  God help us and our soon to be socialist country.

I'll leave you with this.  I can't do much to support our troops and especially those who have been wounded, but I do hope that the donations I give to various conservative organizations, aiding our returning military personnel, help in some way to better their lives.  I would only hope that the liberal community would join me in this endeavor.  Needless to say, I won't be holding my breath.

Tadpole, (0.00 / 0)
military service is much like gettin' REAL  drunk and wakin' up next to a big, fat ugly woman.  It happens, but most of us simply get over it!  We don't carry it for the rest of our lives  as our defining momen, as YOU apparently  do!  And that's sad.  All the troops I've talked to from Montana (all guard or reserve) believe that the "war" is a giant Charlie Foxtrot!  cluster f....!  You have a tight little group of fellow fatwomanizers who CAN'T let it go!  And that's sad, so sad.  Tadpole, get a life!

Well, Ranger,... (0.00 / 0)
I guess I'm stuck in time like you are with your blathering gibberish that makes about as much sense as the crap flowing from Al gore's "ozone hole" below his nose.

Tell you what, in my 26 years of military service I never did wake up beside even one fat ugly woman, so I guess you're one or maybe more up on me in that category. I'm sorry your wake-ups looked like Rosy O'Donnell, but I guess slick arm latrine orderlies couldn't really expect to score much higher.

Other than that, turd stacker, how the hell have ya been?  I see you've been getting shot up pretty bad over at the Dim Bulbs blog.  I guess you never learned to go to a gun fight with something bigger than a pea shooter.

Keep the faith, Ranger, and eventually those first grade students you bore, will give you some insight on what life is really all about.....Hand salute!!

To paraphrase (0.00 / 0)
So to paraphrase you Squid, "I piss on the sacrifice any American makes for this country if they are a liberal."

Had you been around during the time of FDR you would have been bitching and undermining everything his adminstration tried to accomplish because in your wierd reality he was evil because he was a "socialist." That's really, really sad.

Again, FDR and his administration were so liberal and socialistic they made today's Democrats look like Eisenhower republicans. And yet, they restored pride in service to the country, honored veterans, and crushed fascism globally in only four years. Conservatism could never do that. Conservatism honors mediocrity and status quo. Conservatism can never raise the self esteem of a nation because it doesn't care about most folks.

Iraq is your conservative war Squid. Face it. This was your big chance to prove the validity of your ideology and it has failed pathetically. Conservatism has led to humilating defeat, the dismemberment of an incredible military, and the disgrace of America across the globe. Stand aside and let democracy fix your mess, and be grateful for it.
