BREAKING NEWS: Leader of MT Right Wing Breaks Federal Law-Caught Trying to Nurse On Gov't Nipple

by: Montana Cowgirl

Wed Feb 10, 2010 at 16:43:03 PM MST

Sources at the Department of Labor have confirmed that Roger Koopman, the arch-conservative leader and former legislator from Bozeman, has been notified by the Department of Labor that he is violating Federal Law. It appears that he could face criminal prosecution if he continues to defy multiple cease and desist orders.

Koopman's employment firm, Career Concepts, has been collecting massive fees, which sources say are as high as $1500 in some cases, from job applicants who are unemployed and have been answering job offers on the state jobs website. That is a federal crime. There will be more to come on this. I'll keep you posted.

Koopman has in recent times become the self-appointed Anti-Government/Tea Party/Far-Right Wing leader, even recruiting super-conservatives to challenge right-wing incumbents in republican primaries.

Now, Koopman could be finished in that role.

***UPDATE 2***: Here's the latest letter from this month, and the second page of that letter.

Really??? (0.00 / 0)
I checked public news sources and there is nothing.  If this proves to be less than accurate, the claims in this column could prove troublesome as they are stated as fact.  Sources within the DoL?  Was this legal?  Payback can be a bitch.

Better hang an "alleged" disclaimer (0.00 / 0)
on your headline.

With screen capture (0.00 / 0)
it's too late.  What's been published is out there.

what koopman did.. (0.00 / 0)
if what cowgirl says is true, koopman has violated the federal CFR, the fed regs, because you are not allowed to use federal job websites for for-profit employment placement work. it is indeed illegal. whether he can be prosecuted probably depends on whether he continues to defy the department directive. he might get a chance to just stop doing it.  more important, why isn't this in the news already? good scoop cowgirl, if you are right. about time there is some news on this site.

[ Parent ]
okay --this is now a very funny article, in light of the revelation (0.00 / 0)
http://www.missoulian.com/news...

i guess government needs to be just small enough to get rid of everything except the DOL office that runs the website that koopman is making money off of

[ Parent ]
HEY, (0.00 / 0)
whacha gonna do when G-O-D leaves a door open for ya?  I think ol' God left the DOL door open for Kookman, so he had no choice but to enter!  It's a Sarah Palin thingy.  Don't wanna make God angry!  'Sides, after some jail time, Kooky could become the new Chuck Colson, a reformed rightwing felonius saint!

Just as I suspected. (0.00 / 0)
The Tea Party is just one big Teat Party!  Most of the Teat Party members I know are suckling on Uncle Sugar Teat BIG time in one way or another.  They just don't want anyone else to.

I have a copy of a letter stating this from the Dept of Labor (0.00 / 0)
to Mr. Koopman advising him that he is in violation of federal law. I am figuring out how to post it and will do so tomorrow.

Also, Koopman is a public figure (0.00 / 0)
Therefore he is not capable of being defamed in public matters anyway, but thanks for your concern.

[ Parent ]
defamation impossible (0.00 / 0)
craig-he is a former legislator and seeks out the press even now, heading up a public project to recruit candidates, etc.  he is definitely a public figure under the law, and defamation of a public figures is virtually impossible and certainly not possible if someone posts letters. and from what the letters say, it looks like she is right on the money. looks like he fought the law, and the law won.

[ Parent ]
Yo Cowgirl! (0.00 / 0)
Well, when you are going to treat us to the Department of Labor purloined document?

[ Parent ]
Cowgirl (0.00 / 0)
Have you tried clicking on your link to your purloined agency document?

[ Parent ]
Not surprising (0.00 / 0)
The postings here become more of a joke day-after-day.

[ Parent ]
Umm (0.00 / 0)
Exactly how do you know that it was "purloined", Craig?  You've used the term twice, so you must indeed mean stolen, but how do you know it was?  Since it isn't a court document, it would be open to any FOI request.  So I ask again, why do you accuse theft, Craig?

[ Parent ]
Umm (0.00 / 0)
Have you noticed that twice Cowgirl did not dispute the "purloin" characterization?  The easiest thing would be for Cowgirl to state by what legal means she came into possession of the Department of Labor documents which are unreadable as posted.

[ Parent ]
That's funny, Craig (0.00 / 0)
I read them.  Would you like to borrow my reading glasses?  I'd transcribe them but, personally, I haven't the time or interest.

And yes, I've noticed that Montana Cowgirl hasn't responded to your Loaded Question.  My questions to your are:  why should she, and when did you stop beating your wife?

[ Parent ]
Seriously (0.00 / 0)
I can't read them.  When I tried to enlarge them they fuzzed out. BTW, what's loaded about asking the legal means of possession?

[ Parent ]
Because (0.00 / 0)
You didn't ask, Craig.  If you had, the question would be of the form, "Where did you get these purloined letters?"  That is an accusation.

As to the letters, when I have time, I will happily transcribe them, unless someone does it first or prints better quality scans ...

Hint, Hint!

I uploaded larger file sizes. To view them, click on the new docs, then "view all sizes" (0.00 / 0)

I heard a rumor and I requested the docs from the DOL. It's public information. (0.00 / 0)
Montana has a very strong open records law.

[ Parent ]
Apparently (0.00 / 0)
It would appear from the second response letter that Koopman is not denying that he listed job openings for fee that appear on the DOL website.  He seems to feel that the law doesn't apply to his actions, a rather typical ultra-conservative mistake, just as John Sinrud didn't understand that industry licensing applied to him because he only did architecture in his role as a designer.  It would also appear that the state doesn't wish to pursue criminal action as long as he ceases this behavior.

It seems there are two ways this could go.  It could go the Sinrud route, with the Lie Monkey making a big stink of governmental conspiracy and burying himself thereby.  But, and I can't believe I'm writing this, I actually think that Koopman is a little smarter and a lot more self interested than Sinrud.  He could just call, say that he's sorry and it won't happen again, and do everything he can to sweep this whole incident (series of infractions) under the rug.  If that's the case, then Montana Cowgirl is pretty safe.  Koopman has shown this in the past, and I've no doubt it remains true today, that he has no desire to get into a very public pissing match with a blog.  The media is mostly ignoring him right now, using him as small humor over his purity endeavors.  This blows up, and the sharks will come out.  They'll be all over him like stink on ... fish.

Wulfgar a bastion of purity (0.00 / 0)
It sure is funny that Wulfgar is ripping on Sinrud and Koopman when this guy posts to blogs during his working hours at the MSU bookstore.  That sure seems hypocritical, but this is the problem with my cohorts on the left we have to point a finger at our enemies yet we have 3 pointing back at us.  Wulfgar lets talk about the issues - like politicians that are fiscal charlatans, claiming to be fiscal conservatives and yet they spend, spend, spend.

[ Parent ]
Okay (0.00 / 0)
let's talk about the issues - like politicians that are fiscal charlatans

Apparently like Roger Koopman.  That's what I was doing.  What do you have to say about "the issues"?  Nothing?  Didn't think so.

[ Parent ]
"criminal prosecution"? (0.00 / 0)
Wishful thinking much?

From the letter that you finally figured out how to post...

Violations of these policies will result in the loss of access privileges.

Singer should really proof your BS before you're allowed to post it.  I take 85% of what I read here with a grain of salt, over the past few months it's upwards of 98%.

I realize you're scared about losing seats/control in both DC and Helena, but seriously, this is the best you can do?

How stupid are you, Rusty? (0.00 / 0)
Don't bother,  you've already shown the answer.  Yes, if Koopman continues to violate federal statute he could face criminal prosecution, just like Montana Cowgirl wrote.  How do you think those "access privileges" will be revoked?  A sternly worded letter?  Don't be so fucking retarded, Rusty.

(Note to the Ayatollah Starbursts, that's satire, so you simply must defend it, right?)

remedy for roger, and "purloining" answer (0.00 / 0)
the CFR states, as you can sorta see in the letter, that the remedy for these violations is that he must be notified and warned, and then denied access after the second warning if he doesn't heed it. if he is denied access, then that appears to be the end of the line in terms of punishment. my guess is if he breaks onto the site somehow and keeps using it, he can probably be held in some sort of contempt of an agency order, almost like defying a court order.

as to purloining, those letters have been public documents for many months. once an agency puts something on letterhead and sends it out, it is the property of the citizenry and anyone can do what they want with it. so it can't be "purloined". anybody at the DOL can give it to whoever asks for it. so good job cowgirl for getting this out.

Thank you for your reasoned analysis. It is a nice break from the overheated hermetic hyperbole that began with this posting and continued in some of the comments.
