An act of terror in Billings, Montana

by: Jay Stevens

Mon May 10, 2010 at 08:13:23 AM MST

Wow:

Billings fire officials say a firebomb was thrown into a medical marijuana business and "NOT IN OUR TOWN" was spray painted on the storefront.

Thoughts:

Wow.

Really? I have to say, with all the currents of anger swirling across the country, I would not have expected a marijuana clinic to be firebombed. A government building, yes. A political office, yes. A marijuana clinic? No.

I'm guessing the Pakistani Taliban wasn't behind this. I'm guessing a home-grown Billings Montanan threw the bomb. I'm guessing it won't get much national coverage, it won't cause conservatives to demand any suspects' Miranda rights be denied, and no one will be calling for the torture of those that did it.

Question: why not?

My guess (0.00 / 0)
Is because Molotov cocktails are the weapon of choice of most minority race rioters.  It is also the weapon of choice of most anti-war protesters.  Many were thrown in the last several weeks towards conservatives during the pro-illegal immigration rallies against the supporters of the new law.  Liberal politicians are not going to declare this terror any more than Conservatives because it will declare the liberal base; "peaceful" protesters against war, illegal immigration, and race equality: terrorists.  No elected liberal official will declare a Molotov cocktail terror, I don't see them limiting their protesters like that.  I for one think the Conservatives are more likely because they are tired of getting these things thrown at them during riots and protests.

Also, most terror charges stem from so called Weapons of Mass Destruction.  And no, I don't mean chemical, nuclear or biological weapons.  If you look the charges against the Michigan crazy group, and the Times Square dude they both had WMD charges stemmed from improvised small scale bombs.  If this "liberals choice" weapon was larger, and a bomb it would have pertained to this new use of WMD.

Also for anti-abortion protesters...

Like the ones that torched Blue Mountain Clinic years ago here in Missoula.

Should we torture the protesters outside the clinic every wednesday until one squeaks about which one of them contrived the terrist plot to burn the place down?

I believe that the Billings Planned Parenthood was bombed one time too many moons ago.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.  Bombing abortion clinics has long been the prefered method of protest by Christ-loving wack jobs.

What alternative universe do you live in?  I protested, numerous times, the war in Vietnam as well as the war in Iraq.  I've never in my life seen a fellow protester use a Molotov cocktail.  I've never even heard of this happening.  You, Widowmaker, are a liar plain and simple.

now, aren't we?

If you want to dredge up the 60's, why don't we start dredging up the atrocities committed during the war--like Mai Lai, the secret carpet bombing of Laos and Cambodia, agent orange, and widespread use of napalm bombs? 5-6 million dead in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia? The National Guard murders of college students in Ohio?

So if you're willing to try and make political advantage over actions taken 40 years ago by those you hate, is it ok for us to attack conservatives over their association with outfits and tactics like those of the John Birch Society and McCarthyism? How about Nixon and Buchanan's "southern strategy"?

It's so easy to castigate the anti war movement during Vietnam and its perceived excesses when one is willing to cast their eyes askance to the real tragedy of the day: the needless aggression of the US government and its over-zealous generals. Which is no different than our current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

You proved my point (0.00 / 0)
I was showing Turner that liberals happily used Molotov cocktails in the past for a political point.  They used bigger bombs than that against ROTC buildings too.  They are readily used in liberal protest movements today as well.  No elected liberal will call it "terrorism" because people like you defend the use of Molotov cocktails against conservative groups.  Its either a double standard, or wrong across the board.

And for the record Joseph McCarthy is on my top 10 list of American heroes.  I still wish we had a Senator today that had the courage to expose the Enemies Within like McCarthy.  John Birch Society is full of great people.  I think we should judge people today with their associations from 40 years ago.

Is an ROTC bomber a terrorist?  Well according to this post, using Molotov Cocktails for a political point is, so yes, ROTC bombers and there supporters were vile terrorists.  Perhaps, all people and their associates that used similar weapons to terrorize the conservatives during the 60's/70's  are terrorists.  But now I'm stepping on our President...

No, I don't, and never have. I challenge you to prove me wrong.

You're resorting to ad hominem because you have no other way to defend your illogical remarks trying to tie the Billings bombing on liberals.

And I fully expect you to be copacetic with the likes of Birchers, McCarthism, and neocon/imperial philosophy.

Kent State (0.00 / 0)
Referring to the heroes of Kent State as murderers shows your skewed sense of fact and logic.  The rampaging hippies had just burned down the ROTC building, and backed the soldiers into a corner.  They were hurling Molotov cocktails.  The "peaceful" protesters wanted blood, and they got it.  So, once again you idolize those who use Molotov cocktails as a weapon.  I'm surprised you haven't set up an alter right there in Billings!

You have no sense of real historical facts and the rewrite of historical fiction by the idiots.  Its easy to know what crazy things you take as fact!  "Murders", apparently you have never read a fact in your life.

Historical facts? (0.00 / 0)
I grew up in, and participated in the anti-war movement of the 60's and 70's. You want to take me out and shoot me, too?

I believe in nonviolent civil disobedience. Never have and never will condone violence. Including that of the National Guard foisted upon protesters.

But you have still failed to offer any proof of your delusions that the Billings arson was a liberal plot.

[ Parent ]
Foisted? (0.00 / 0)
See how you changed what happened that day?  You created a delusional picture of what you think happened to portray Kent state protesters as civil, peaceful and normal people.  The National Guard responded to violence, they didn't create it.

The "innocent" violent protesters attacked a group of soldiers protecting the campus.  I hate to see anybody shot.  They weren't "taken out and shot" as found in your fantasy.  The protesters at Kent state were violent.  They were used to attacking and spitting on soldiers and conservatives.  This day, they went too far.  Viciously attacked, burned down buildings, and cornered soldiers.  And they were killed because of it.  It's sad those young men were forced to take lives.  But, they were only murders if you think people don't have a right to self defense.  I for one think people have a right to defend themselves.

"The National Guard responded to violence, they didn't create it." (0.00 / 0)
And the protesters weren't responding to American military violence? Like all the violence we were perpetrating on the Vietnamese, Laotians and Cambodians?

You can spin it however you want, but you can't avoid the basic facts of the war. Historical revisionism may be in vogue for neocons and teabaggers these days, but I don't have to ascribe to it. Nor do most reasonable, thinking, people.

The vast majority of Kent State protesters were civil and peaceful people. And some people were agitated by the presence of an armed militia trying to intimidate protesters. And there were agitprops mixed in with protesters to rile up the crowd. What you mean by "normal" is beyond me. Your use of the term is just intended to create the illusion of "real americans" to contrast with all the undesirables.

You may hate hippies, but they are Americans too. Just as much as you are. Just don't try to conflate what happened in the 60's with anything going on in Billings with the arson. That's whack.

Comment from Billings (0.00 / 0)

I wasn't really surprised when I saw it in the paper yesterday, because people are upset at the way the medical marijuana has been handled.

They have the perps on camera, and I'm sure they're looking for them.

I voted for medical marijuana, with visions of actually ill people getting dispensed weed to help with their illnesses, not every wannabe stoner in the county saying they have chronic pain.

One guy went over to the hotel where they were selling the cards, told the Doctor that he liked to drink, and that he needed something for the hangover pain, and he got a card - all that was required was the fee.

Billings decided to put a moratorium on new ones for six months last night, and after the moratorium, they need to get the statutes in line to de-license them inside the city, like the other cities are discussing.

Don't overlook the possibility that these 'bombings' were done on purpose, just to influence the City Council.

That was my thought too (0.00 / 0)
Because this is a liberal weapon of choice, I immediately assumed (which I will probably prove myself right on) that it was an attack by a supporter to rile up support for a poor "victim."  It could be vandalism, which would make the owners indeed victims of property crime, but my bet is the crime of near arson to garner support.

[ Parent ]
You are so whack (0.00 / 0)
by trying to push your "liberal weapon of choice" meme. Your suggestions that somehow the arson in Billings was the result of some "liberal" agenda is psychotic.

You are truly insane with your assertions that this is anything more than what it appears to be on the surface: arson, plain and simple. Your pathetic attempts to ascribe liberal political motives and methods to it are really more revealing about you, than anything about the crime.

[ Parent ]
Is it? (0.00 / 0)
As you acknowledged above, liberals greatly accepted the use of Molotov cocktails as a form of "peaceful protest" in the past.  They still do today.  It wouldn't surprise me if this was for sympathy: it just has the handwriting of an old school hippy.  The wording "Not in my town" leaves me to believe that it was just a recycled paper from the Not In my Town thing the liberals did a while back.  I could be wrong, and if so, I will admit that it was arson/vandalism.
