Sigh

Fox News is being pretty incredible in their coverage of the health curriculum in Helena.

Teaching children that same-sex relationships exist and the proper names of human organs apparently counts as "sex" education these days. This seems like a stretch to me, but let's go with it.

Why, some people wonder, do 5 year olds need to learn anything about their sexual organs? Here's a big reason:

  • If we're going to try to catch childhood sexual abuse, children need to have some understanding of what is inappropriate and should be reported. That's part of healthy sexuality and something that some parents will likely fail to impart. I think most of us agree that helping small children avoid sexual abuse is a good goal.

You're doing a good job (0.00 / 0)
of keeping those "unlikely voters" engaged 'til November. LOL

From that right-winged MSNBC:

HELENA, Mont. - A proposed sex education program that teaches fifth-graders the different ways people have intercourse and first-graders about gay love has infuriated parents and forced the school board to take a closer look at the issue.

Helena school trustees were swamped Tuesday night at a hearing that left many of the hundreds of parents in attendance standing outside a packed board room. They urged the school board in this city nestled in the Rocky Mountains to take the sex education program back to the drawing board.

The proposed 62-page document covers a broad health and nutrition education program and took two years to draft. But it is the small portion dealing with sexual education that has drawn the ire of many in the community who feel it is being pushed forward despite its obvious controversial nature.

Parents appeared most worried about pieces of the plan that teaches first-graders about same-gender relationships, fifth-graders that sexual intercourse includes "vaginal, oral, or anal penetration," and high school students about erotic art. The curriculum would also teach kindergartners anatomical terms such as penis, vagina, breast, nipples, testicles, scrotum and uterus.

"They made this more controversial by adding in all this stuff like same-gender relationships to small children, teaching body parts to kindergartners, and teaching erotic art to ninth through 12th-graders," said Mikal Wilkerson, who has five children in the school system and a husband who sits on the school board. "They even teach about anxiety about sexual performance in high school."

It would appear so, by your own admission.

Wow. Just wow. (0.00 / 0)
Just the response one would expect from everyone's favorite almost-but-not-quite lawyer.

And you have the audacity of accusing others of trolling.  Talk about the pot and the fuckin' kettle. LOL

Troll? (0.00 / 0)
Hey, I just asked for clarification.  You admitted to laughing while you have a FA.  I just wanted to know.  Are you like Vitter?  Wearing diapers and loving the dildonics AF?  Are you a bottom?  What are you claiming?  You f' kettles now in your FA?  You wrote it.  The rest of us are undoubtedly curious.  How can that be trolling?

You guys! (0.00 / 0)
Honest to God, what is your problem?  The petty name calling? The idiot little jokes?

This is an important issue and the discussion should be important, too.

But instead you just make snide comments about one another.

Grow up or shut up.

Precisely (0.00 / 0)
And that's exactly what FOX news, and others, are shooting for.  They're entire intent is not to promote important discussions of oh so important issues.  It's to get people who actually give a damn to commit to being tired, frustrated and standing down.  They use "petty name calling", "idiot little jokes" and flat out lies.  Rusty is little more than a weak foot-soldier of despair.  FOX "presents" the issue, relying on their faithful viewers to politicize it, and turn it juvenile.  So, should someone fight back, all it will do is frustrate and demotivate persons such as yourself.  That's exactly what our Murdoch media masters want, and that's exactly what they'll get.  That's their real power.  It isn't 'firing the base up' as they are most often accused of.  It's keeping everybody else looking anywhere but at what is really at stake.

It was my hope and intent that Jay would delete that entire exchange, starting with Rusty's childish little troll, as per the new commenting rules.  Yes, that does stand as an attempt to manipulate the webmaster.  For that, I do apologize.

You're good at teh tubes (0.00 / 0)
try this...do a google search for:

A proposed sex education program that teaches fifth-graders the different ways people have intercourse and first-graders about gay love has infuriated parents and forced the school board to take a closer look at the issue.

You end up with 99,200 results.  It's an Associated Press article.  Nice try though!

Exit question:  Why do you think I initially posted a link to MSNBC?

DERP!

Well Rusty (0.00 / 0)
I'm at least good enough at the Interwebs to recognize the FOX news cycle when I encounter it. But then, I'm not a good little tool of the cycle like you are.

Sure dude (0.00 / 0)
An executive committee of the Helena School District Board of Trustees has decided to go back to the drawing board on a proposed health enhancement curriculum and extend the timetable to take action on the draft document. The two-month extension will enable the curriculum's authors to consider the outpouring of comments - for and against, local and national - the board has received regarding the human sexuality provisions.

Parents are pissed off at the schools for overstepping their bounds and you blame FOX News?

You probably don't have kids, do ya?

I'm a parent... (0.00 / 0)
...and my kids already know about gay marriage & the basics of sex ed. If the schools won't teach your kids about it, mine will! Bwhahaha!
