Rough Labor Day News

Mon Sep 06, 2010 at 07:05:39 AM MST

Rough news for workers this year. Nationally, average personal income fell last year 1.8%.

Missoula managed to slide less than the national average, but still say a decline. Billings slid .1% more than the national average. Great Falls actually managed to buck the trend but only barely.

The Fed and Congress should act. This country still needs more stimulus. Inflation is not a risk right now. Years of a stagnant economy is a very real one.

More Stimulus? (0.00 / 0)

More stimulus is not the answer.

The current administration has made business and investors far too nervous to add jobs.

The short term solution will be to toss out the Congress, which is already underway, forego the tax increase in January by not letting the tax cuts expire, and to dump Obamacare.

I actually don't forsee a recovery until 2013 when the next administration takes office. The current administration is far too inept.

Too inept? (0.00 / 0)
How can this administration be more inept than what Bush & the GOP did? WHich was to start two wars, pass huge unfunded tax cuts, enact an unfunded pharmaceutical give-away, greatly increase inequity in this country, and a whole raft of other BS.

Now our current admin may be impotent when it comes to reversing the economic bloodbath we're experiencing. But the real culprit is the battle of ideology and culture that is being waged with corporate money, so as to cement plutocratic rule in this country.

But go ahead and pin your hopes on President Palin, VP Beck and WWIII to save us, Coobs. It'll just hasten the unraveling of this country, so that maybe the next revolution will be able to secure a more just and equal society.

Who has REALLY failed? (0.00 / 0)
The Obama administration has NOT failed--the economy has failed due to greed and the lure of power.  Banks have been playing fast and loose with our money for far too long, and re-regulation with real teeth has to be re-instated.  The bank execs and corporate CEOs who failed should NOT have been compensated with bailout money--they need to be jailed!

Whoever thought this economic mess could be cured in 18 months is plain nuts.  This is going to take time.  I read that corporations are awash with cash, but are unwilling to loan it out to small businesses, or to people seeking to buy new homes.  The big banking firms want to hold on to all the deposits they can so that they can continue play fast and loose in the risky markets and continue to reward their crooked CEOs with buckets of money stuffed in their pay envelopes.

All the Limbaughs, Becks, Hannitys, Angles, Palins, Bachmanns, and their ilk are NOT going to have either the knowledge or the imagination to make meaningful changes.  If they just sit on their butt's for the next 3-5 years, the economy will improve due to the financial stimulus put into place by George Bush and Barack Obama.

What the economy really needs is MORE stimulus spending, not less.

loan money to small businesses?! LOLWUT?

Almost every loan that is made (0.00 / 0)
to a small business is made by a corporation.

Or do you believe that banks are not incorporated?

Dipshit LOLWUT!

You know, all this "it's Bush's fault" saw is getting old (0.00 / 0)
Sure, King Bush I did a lot of reprehensable things - most with the full backing of Congress - The patriot act, the wars, the tax cuts, the corporate handouts etc. I was very vocal at the time that these things had to stop.

Give it a rest, though. Our current situation may have - in part - been caused by Bush and his administration but the current administration and Congress have done little to help.

You guys want to claim victory with HCR and the Stimulus but let's look at the facts. HCR was an insurance company bailout. Since it's passage, our health insurance cost has increased 8%, our deductables have increase 11%, our out of pocket expenses have increase 7%, and the insurance company has cut both procedures and medications from it's coverage that have cost us more out of pocket money. In short, HCR has INCREASED our yearly medical costs by almost 20%. What the hell?

Unemployment has gotten so bad that the unemployment numbers are being massaged to make it look better (those people that are still unemployed but not receiving unemployment are not included in the reported percentage).

Talk is cheap. The Dems have been completely ineffectual at resolving any of the problems facing our country - including the evils you expound being caused by King Bush I. The patriot act is still alive and well, the "secret" holding facilities that Bush stated are still in operation, the economy is still tanked and the Corporations are still in charge. What has the administration - the CURRENT administration - done to resolve these? Why should we have any faith at all that the new regime is any better than the old regime?

"claim victory" (0.00 / 0)
Who's claiming victory? And when did we get regime change? I see some new actors, but...

So whacha gonna do about it?
