Cry Me a River, BJ

Brad Johnson apparently thinks that Sam Kitzenberg shouldn't be allowed to switch parties. Note, of course, that we never really discuss what this means. And what does it mean for Kitzenberg to switch parties? It means, functionally, that he'll vote for the Democratic choice for President of the Senate and for Democrats for committee chairs and to have majorities on the committees. It's a procedural vote. After that, he's free to vote however he wants.

Want to know a dirty little secret? He's even free to split with the party on those votes. He could, say, talk to a couple other Democrats and the Republicans and they could run their own person for President, just like three Democrats and fifty Republicans did in the House two years ago.

A party label is a public label to offer an explanation of where one's values lie. Kitzenberg no longer feels that the Republican label properly explains his values.

Matt Singer :: Cry Me a River, BJ
Switching party labels isn't the same as switching masters. And, unless Brad Johnson does whatever his Republican Party masters tell him and he's simply confused and thinks other office holders do the same, he owes Kitzenberg an apology.

Finally, if he's going to be criticizing other office holders for which party they identify with, he could at least focus on doing his job properly, rather than overseeing an election with massive confusion (trust me, there was a lot of confusion over how election rules changed since '04).

I know BJ is trying to reingratiate himself to the GOP base that he pissed off by backing same-day voter registration. And I've heard he wants to challenge Brian Schweitzer. Issuing random political statements is a poor way to do that.

Want to impress the state, Brad? Do your job. And start doing it better than you have been.

Johnson as Gov??? puh-leeze! (2.00 / 1)
Johnson is not only just a plain douche, but he has a bad voice for politics. He is fine for sec. of state, because noone really cares about it and he ran against a fat irish guy from Billings who wrote off Missoula. But, seriously, the man lost to Mike Taylor in a primary for US Senate. Schweitzer would walk all over him. Hell, he wouldn't make it out of the GOP primary if Keenan runs.
Anyway, I am hardly concerned about Johnson. He's just a shmuck!

I'm glad to hear from BJ (3.00 / 1)
To be perfectly honest, I didn't even know BJ was still alive. Good for him to still be breathing, his political future is better than Paul Sliter's.

Keenan (3.00 / 1)
Keenan should bring it on. Brian would clean his clock. He is nothing but a rich out of stater.

Booby Keenan of Big Dork (4.00 / 1)
I didn't realize that ol' home-skulin', notebook-keepin' Booby was from outta state.  Where is he from?  And how long has he been here?  Anybody know?

Sam Kitzenberg (2.00 / 1)
I've got a problem with Kitzenberg on this issue.

(1) Kitzenberg makes a bad inversment, quits his job & spends his retirement money to get out of debt.

(2) Is hired to a $43,000 per year unadvertised job to work for the Schweitzer administration.

(3) Is elected as a Republican represntative, and in the election Gov. Schweitzer loses control.

(4) Kitzenberg switxhes parties suddenly, to give control back to his boss.

Guys, this just isn't ethical. I know you won't get rich on what he's being paid, but the only way this would be ethical would be for him to quit the job. It looks like a political payoff to Governor Schweitzer, no matter what anybody says.

Repeating a Lie Makes It No Truer (0.00 / 0)
"(3) Is elected as a Republican represntative (sic), and in the election Gov. Schweitzer loses control."

Kitzenberg was not elected in 2006. And the republicans in his district ran somebody against him in 2004--when he was elected--because he wasn't Republican enough.

You know all this. I've seen you all over blogs where this has been posted before. Why do you keep repeating the same lie? It doesn't make it any truer.

Sure the job thing looks shady. I thought so when I heard about it. But Kitzenberg has addressed it straight on and, given the way the Republicans have alienated plenty of people who used to vote for them (like me) I can understand why he wants to leave.
