Like Jay, I'm headed away. This site will stay up, as I still often find the archives useful. My reason for leaving has a lot in common with Jay's. I've been blogging Montana politics at various locations since December 2002. Seven years and eleven months is a long-time and I find I have less and less time for it.

Plus, as many folks already know, my work is taking me to Portland, OR, to build a network of organizations doing more work like Forward Montana to train, mobilize, and elect a new generation of leaders. I can't keep up with Montana.

Jay's been an amazing friend and partner here. I've been fortunate to work alongside (and against) hundreds (hell, probably thousands) of talented Montanans over the past few years. I can't list everyone here, so I won't try. I'll also be back frequently, since Montana will always be home (and I hope to make it my residence again one day).

Thanks, everyone, for reading. My guess is that this site will effectively turn into a ghost town. But there's lot of other talented writers in this state to pick up the slack.

Well ... (0.00 / 0)
I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, and now I feel almost like shedding tears.

Just so's you both know, there are other talented writers in Montana, but there was only one LitW.  This website, like most, had it's own community, and that is irreplaceable.  You guys are going to be deeply missed.

Thanks (0.00 / 0)
I'll miss it, too, but it is time.

Good six years.

Good luck in Portland Matt.

I'm taking off some time too from the blogs - after all, there's no money in it.

But I'll be back next year - the liberal blogs would miss me too much -

Good luck in the new venture. I've always enjoyed the back-and-forth. Take care and I wish you well.

Thanks Matt (0.00 / 0)
I've enjoyed the content. Good luck in Portland. I'm going to miss the posts. We should have a drink before you go.

Good luck out there, Matt. (0.00 / 0)
It's a great place if you can stand being around tons of people.

Interesting read:

Good luck, Matt, (0.00 / 0)
There are a lot of great things to do and see in Oregon and while you will miss the snow, there are still places to get away (I personally loved hiking on Mt Hood and going to places like Battery Russell on the coast).

We will certainly miss you and Jay. It won't be the same without you guys.

As if being a Dallas Cowboys fan wasn't hard enough this year... (0.00 / 0)
...then we get stomped like a narc at a biker ralley on Tuesday.  Then I get the news about you, Jay and LITW.  I will not be purchasing any lottery tickets anytime soon and I think I'll make an appointment to ensure my vasectomy is still functioning properly.

Good luck, gods speed, and get your ass back home as soon as you teach the folks in Oregon how its done.  I'll never forget primary night 2006 as long as I live.  Or that kick ass whiskey we sipped on Thanksgiving day in the back of Charlie's.

Good luck to you, Matt (0.00 / 0)
You've done good work here and I know you'll keep doing that.  Cheers.
