CREDO Calls Out Denny Rehberg: Support Health Care Reform or Refuse Your Own Coverage

by: Matt Singer

Thu Jan 20, 2011 at 11:33:26 AM MST

Montana's junior Congressman has been positioning himself as the number one opponent of the Affordable Care Act. Using his new role as an Approps subcommittee chair to obstruct progress. His approach is so lame that the Helena Independent Record basically editorialized that he has no substance.

That explains why CREDO has Rehberg on their list of Hypocrites in the House. Montana's millionaire US House member has no problem taking taxpayer-funded health coverage for himself (and using it to fix himself up following his alcohol-fueled accidents) but would deny health insurance reforms that are a meaningful first step toward affordable coverage for millions -- and the bending of the cost curve downwards.

It takes a special kind of hubris to take taxpayer-funded health insurance while denying help to anyone else. But Congressman Rehberg has never lacked for hubris. Take a moment to send him a fax courtesy of CREDO.

Update -- A bunch of other groups are jumping on-board a similar effort nationally. Huffington Post has details:

A coalition of Democratic groups and progressive bloggers launched a new campaign on Thursday focusing attention on Republican members of Congress who voted to repeal health care reform while getting their own coverage on the taxpayer's dime.
Daily Kos and Blue America are raising money to do local radio buys to spread the word on this.

FINALLY! (0.00 / 0)
A state daily FINALLY points out that TRVTH - that this cowboy's got no clothes!  He's ALL hat and no cattle!  All bullsh*t and no bulls! All tea and no beef.  WHERE'S THE BEEF, DOPEY RHEBURP?! I only ask what's TAKEN them so long to point this out?  And now, will other state dailys do the same?  I won't hold my breath.  The GF Spitoon under the direction of Moseman has NOT written a real editorial since Eric Newhouse left!  All the Spitoon spits out on the ed page is feel good bullsh*t and military rah rah stuff!  It's terribly sickening.  Why anyone would subscribe to that rag is beyond me!  Bottom line, though, is that SOME of these newspaper folks are Montanans too, not transplants.  And as such, they have a vested interest in good governance and what happens here.  They need to USE the bully pulpit for more than chamber of commerce cheerleading!  Good job, IR.  SOMEone found their nuts!  "Ohhhhh, THAT'S what them things are for?!!"  Yes, you IR morons, THAT is what your nuts are for!  Sure, Dopey Rheburp is gonna be mad and probably send his thugs to your office for a chat. And yes, the teabaggers are gonna call you commies and socialists. But yet, doesn't it feel good for once to write a REAL editorial?  I rarely have anything good to say about the state's papers, but today, you done good!  You loosened up that corporate collar ever so slightly and breathed a free breath for at least a moment! DIDN'T THAT FEEL GOOD?! Now, follow the three "K's" of good journalism. Keep your powder dry, keep your resume updated, and keep the good editorials coming!  Hey, it's only a job.  You can always find another one!  But if ya gotta go down, go down knowing that you fought for the TRVTH!  It's time.

You're a little too late - The House already voted to repeal Obamacare -

BTW - are you back to being a blogmeister?

hypocrites (0.00 / 0)
every damn congressman or senator who says they don't believe in government supported health care had better quit using it, or get used to being called hypocrites.

let me watch you squirm out of that one coobs.

Let me explain it to you problembear - (0.00 / 0)

The Govt. kicks in for employees health care, just like any other business.

So if you work for the railroad, you could call their health care 'railroad supported'

If you work for a lumberyard, you could call your health care 'business supported'

So you are of the opinion, that all Government employees who don't support Obamacare should give up their insurance?

Why?

Obamacare is a badly flawed piece of legislation, that our congressmen were not even given time to read before it was forced through.

My problem is that it compels everyone to buy a product, from an insurance company, whether they want it, or need it.

Maybe Obama should compel everybody to buy a GM car next - with mandatory car payments withheld from your pay whether you want it, or can afford it. Same thing.

After all, it would be good for interstate commerce -

explain to me why republicans don't want us to make our own choices then (0.00 / 0)
i would like the ability to "kick in" for health coverage with the same provider rehberg has. but the option to choose government provided health insurance over private insurance is being fought by your guys. if you are such a proponent of choice then why stand in the way of allowing people to choose what coverage would best suit them?

i will say it again here. there should be no mandatory anything by our government. conversely, there should be no barrier to allowing me to choose provider.

if rehberg is such a proponent of free enterprise why then does he choose government provided health insurance?

if rehberg can choose what he feels is good for him, i demand the same choices. the very definition of a hypocrite is to not abide by the principles that you want others to follow.

i will await your explanation.

Easy - (1.00 / 1)

Just get the right job -

The best health insurance I ever had was from 1996-2000 when I worked for Makita Power Tools - my out of pocket cost, for a family of 6, with low deductibles, VSP, and dental was less than $45 a month -

If you want to get Denny's insurance, simply get elected to the House of Representatives - if you want Rob Kaileys insurance, go get a job at the library -

Glib, but..... (0.00 / 0)
asinine!  Here, Eric, let me make it even easier for your rightwing mind.  If you want to stay healthy, DON'T GET SICK!  It's easy, isn't it?  You KNOW that I would never hope that a serious medical misfortune befall you, but sorry, dude, you don't have a clue.  But hey, if you REALLY want money for health care, sue the Billings Fire Dept.!  It gets easier all the time.

Health Care (0.00 / 0)

But Larry - think about it a minute.

If you get sick, you get treated - that's the way it is.

yes - it's outrageously overpriced.

yes - the hospitals, clinics, do everything they can to rip off you and your insurance company. An aspirin doesn't cost $6.00. And if you check into a hospital at 3:00 pm, and check out the next morning, they'll try to tack on an extra day, and charge you for two days. Your insurance might not cover the overcharges, and then they (the provider)go after you for it.

But you get treated.

My brother filed bankruptcy 2 years ago in March, because of huge medical bills. But his wife got cured.

So nobody's dying in the streets for lack of care.

Does that entitle The Great Leader to manndate that YOU buy health insurance, from a private company, with no cost controls? He thinks it does.

and for your information (0.00 / 0)
if i were to get the job that denny rehberg has, i would not avail myself of government provided health insurance and then vote to keep my constituents from being able to make the same choice regarding their health insurance plans.

some of us are just built that way. can't be a phony hypocrite and live with myself. but apparently your favorite congressman from montana and nearly all the republican state legislators, us senators and congressmen who oppose government provided health insurance have no problem with scooping it up for themselves and their families while they staunchly oppose the same choice to us.

like i said before- hypocrites.

[ Parent ]
i have a great job eric with health insurance that sucks (0.00 / 0)
i want the same choice that rehberg has.

rehberg and republicans who say they love private enterprise are denying the ability of the company i work for from joining the same pool of coverage that rehberg and other hypocrites like him enjoy from their government provided insurance.

you haven't answered anything about why rehberg talks a good game of how excellent private enterprise can solve all our problems, yet he seems more willing to trust government provided health insurance over private health insurance plans. why is that?

do you suppose that rehberg doesn't trust private insurance plans as much as government provided health insurance plans?

you still have not provided anyone here with any reason to not call rep. rehberg and other opponents of government provided health insurance hypocrites. and until they walk their talk, their phony words and pharisee ways are clear for all the world to see.

The House vote means exactly jack-squat.  It was done only to play to suckers like you.  You are so very gullible.

[ Parent ]
Jack squat to you Rob - (0.00 / 0)

The vote means that the peoples will is being done.

We sent them to Washington to rein in Obama, and they are doing it.

Let's see if Harry Reid has the guts to bring it up for a vote in the Senate.

If he does, I'm betting it passes the Senate too, and The Messiah is forced to veto it - Obama against the whole country - EXCELLENT!

If he doesn't, it'll look bad for the 1/3 of Senate Dems who are up for re-election in 2012 - again EXCELLENT!

Win/Win for conservatives.
