Definitely a Farce

Two more must-reads. The Senate has adjourned for good, leaving the House the option of embracing the last Senate-adopted budget or adjourning and forcing a special session.

Republicans are decrying this, even though it is precisely the strategy they were thinking about launching.

This is just insanity. I'm not even really sure what I think of the Senate Democrats' move. To be sure, their hand was forced. When it becomes absolutely clear that the other side won't deal in good faith, it becomes damn difficult to keep trying.

Bottom line: A special session is basically inevitable. The Republicans just keep saying no one will negotiate with them. I don't buy it. They keep getting offers and then saying no one will compromise. Here's an idea, Mr. Confuse Negotiations With Bribery and the rest of your party: make a damn counter-offer. Start acting like adults. Stop crying. Stop cussing. Start working.

Update -- The session is over. There is no budget.

After watching Representatives bicker over procedural matters in the House Appropriations Committee, Sen. John Cobb, R-Augusta, told reporters he was disgusted with House Republican leadership and compared them to third-world dictators.

"You gotta a couple of thugs that are just taking it over," said Cobb, a moderate Republican who often votes with Democrats.

Thanks for the sanity, Senator. This session is a giant black eye on the state.

Wow (0.00 / 0)
That's quite stunning. I once heard, "American voters like guts. And Republicans have got them." Not anymore. This was a pretty gutsy move by the Democrats, and all it's left the Republicans to do is bitch and moan. Montana voters are gonna look on Democrats as the ones who'll get the job done. The Senate's move tells the House they are done with business. Take it or leave it.

Good point, (0.00 / 0)
keep in mind the counter off has to be acceptable to the Governor's office, that's where the trump card is being held.

That's the problem (0.00 / 0)
The Republican's haven't offered anything. They can go around saying the Governor would just reject it, but they can't take a chance that he would accept a counter offer. If he rejects an offer then they would go around touting it. The Democrats have offered compromises, but the Pubies are hard lining it. I don't mind. They are gonna throw the legislature into a month long special session that they will probably deadlock again.

Somebody please tell me (0.00 / 0)
that Montanans are paying attention to this and will not make the horrible mistake of re-electing a Republican House. Please?

You bet your sweet bippy (0.00 / 0)
From Sideshow all the way to Mr. Watch-your-LANGEuage there are screwing themselves over hard. The Democrats don't need to lift a finger other than to say "Rememeber when" and the media will help.

Big problem with this article (0.00 / 0)
The gazette article gave every Republican from Lange to Sideshow Scott Sales a voice but no democrats. What's up with that?

The Dems called their bluff, and basically shoved it up the Repos (0.00 / 0)
special session asses in a much more politically savey way than the Repos could muster.

Now when we return to a Repo required special session, we can remember to thank the Repos for the wasted tax dollars their special session is costing all Montana's, including tax payers, kids, seniors, and even Repos.
