Big News Out of Ravalli County

by: Matt Singer

Wed Jun 06, 2007 at 09:24:05 AM MST

Well here's some big news: Republicans lost big time in Ravalli County yesterday -- going down to defeat in not one, but three county commission races. The makeup of the county commission will now be 2 Republicans, 2 Democrats, and 1 independent.

That's pretty damn incredible. Congrats to the Dems in Ravalli County, who have been among the hardest working in the state for years.

On par with Burns' defeat as far as I'm concerned (0.00 / 0)
Really, it is.

The republicans who are (were) part of the Bitterroot Valley's power structure have been out of touch with the values of most Ravalli County voters for years...including the values of most republican voters.  I mean a last ditch effort by the GOP leadership in the county to label the three candidates as "tree huggers and abortionists?"

Hopefully the threats, intimidation and bully-tactics that were all-to-common in Ravalli County politics (just ask any of the Dems and independent voters how they've been treated over the past 15 years) will become a thing of the past.  The future of the Bitterroot Valley was literally at stake and I think the vast majority of voters realized that more of the same wasn't going to cut it. Congratulations to the new commissioners and to the majority in the Bitterroot Valley whose voices were ignored or silenced for all those years!

And that's why I'm SO encouraged when I see scooty sales, sincrud, looney lange, and all the other nutjobs say that they are going to get even MORE "conservative" (read wacky) for the next election!  If we just keep give'em the rope, Montana will be just fine.  The kooks have run their course.

And the new Dem commissioners will have to gird their loins, for the intimidation tactics WILL continue.  The brown shirts will NOT back off.  The commission meetings WILL be very interesting.  For you see, when neonazis lose, they attempt to make life VERY difficult and un-democratic as a result.  I hope the new commssioners are prepared.  Intimidation IS a favorite tactic of the extreme right, as the Bitterroot knows so well.
