Rehberg Joins Attack Against Birth Control

by: Allyson

Tue Jul 24, 2007 at 15:16:51 PM MST

Last week, pro-family-planning lawmakers defeated a direct attack on birth control by a vote of 231 - 189. Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) introduced an amendment to bar Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funds for family planning services through Title X, the nation's family planning program.

Each year approximately three million low-income women receive basic health care through 4,600 Title X clinics nationwide, including 575 Planned Parenthood clinics. For many women, particularly those who do not qualify for Medicaid and those who have no health insurance, Title X clinics provide the only basic health care that they receive. Disqualifying these clinics from Title X would have put hundreds of thousands of couples immediately at risk of losing family-planning services.

Not surprisingly, our state's lone Representative,  Denny Rehberg, supported this amendment.  Rep. Rehberg, who has a 0% voting record on reproductive rights issues apparently didn't get the memo that increased access to birth control and family planning services reduces unintended pregnancy rates and the need for abortion.

Please take a minute to express your outrage at Rep. Rehberg's vote against access to birth control and family planning.

Rehberg (0.00 / 0)
Billings has a conservative streak running down its spine and it is the single most important vote block for the GOP in Montana. Rehberg has to vote the way he does.  It is expected.

Understand that in Yellowstone County any publicly funded health care, or any publicly funded program of any kind, is branded, 'Socialism.' This includes public schools, the city bus system, the University in Missoula, Amtrak, the Post Office, etc.

Yellowstone county GOP leaders warned then Governor Tim Babcock, not to fund any additional expansion of Eastern for fear of new ideas being dispersed to local youth.

You can yell yourself blue in the face, but Rehberg votes the way of Yellowstone county and no amount of intelligent discourse will get him to change.

I find that flawed (0.00 / 0)
I seriously doubt that Dennis the Menace isn't pro-choice because of Yellowstone county. People in Montana hardly vote for party or for issues. We like to kid ourselves, but honestly; how else do you explain 2000, 2002, and 2004?

2000... George Bush wins this state 2:1. O'Keefe, Schweitzer, and Keenan lose by less than 5% of the vote. These people are totally different from Bush. Different ideas, values, and platforms.

I'll come back to 2002, so 2004... Bush does it again, but this time we elect Schweitzer as Governor, move the Senate to the Democrats, and close the gap in the House. Still pretty different.

2002... Max Baucus was reelected 2:1 in Yellowstone County. Allyson may have a better idea of his voting record, but I'm pretty certain Sen. Baucus hasn't wavered on his stance on choice.

Rehberg doesn't vote because he's looking at election numbers. He votes that way because he can, because its his ideology. The same way that Max will vote the way he wants. It's because they are almost untouchable. Of course anyone can see that ever since Steve Kelly gave Rehberg his biggest win in 2002 Democrats have been whittling those numbers down. All I'm saying is don't make it sound like its something he looks at when he votes like this. He hates the Bill of Rights, save one, you can guess which.

Rehberg, ecccch!!! (0.00 / 0)
Rehberg could have accomplished Baby Bushes colonscopy last week without moving his head.  That's how he votes.  Billings had one of the first Planned Parenthood Clinics in Montana and it now has two sites, I understand.  But Denny doesn't understand anything about Montana except that the majority of voters don't vote the issues, so he can vote any way he wants.  And he doesn't pay attention to anything you write to him but replies stating his position rather than recognizing yours.
