Dennis Rehberg's Hilarious Anti-Gay Joke

by: Matt Singer

Thu Feb 14, 2008 at 11:03:46 AM MST

From The Hill:
When you're from Montana, it's hard to find things to do - so practical jokes come in handy.

Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) recently played a gag on Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) on their Middle East congressional delegation trip last month.

Rehberg left an "Idaho Travel Package" on Simpson's airplane seat.

Contents included a stuffed sheep with gloves attached to it (draw your own conclusions), a Village People CD, books on cross-dressing and sign language and a T-shirt that reads, "My senator may not be gay, but my governor is Butch."

Rehberg is proud of the gift bag. "I spent a bit of time putting the things together," he boasted.

Nice use of your paycheck, sir.

That whole mixing anti-gay humor with beastiality innuendos? Not so cool, especially for a guy with a history of telling AIDS patients to die.

Classy... (0.00 / 0)
Unfortunately, not terribly surprising.  Thank you so much Representative Rehburg for reflecting such an f'd-up representation of those who elect you.  You are one smug, daft prick. Thank you though for a little more incentive to work that much harder to ensure you are not representing our state in the foreseeable future.

Whaaaaa the heck????? (0.00 / 0)
A book on sign language????  What the hell is THAT supposed to mean?  Does Dopey have something against DEAF people now too?  What a horse's ass!

That Rehberg secretly is a Velcro Sheep fan? Who'da thunk it???

Hmmm... What should he mix his bestiality innuendos with, then? ;-)

I think he forgot something, though, and left out the sheep cuffs.

Rehberg is proud of the gift bag. "I spent a bit of time putting the things together," he boasted.

Maybe he spent his time trying everything out, too!

Not really Denny's Joke (0.00 / 0)
According to The Hill that slogan about Senators and Butch is a popular bumper sticker in Idaho.

oh, (0.00 / 0)
so it's okay then, right?

Not gonna lie... (0.00 / 0)
... if I were flying with lots of lawmakers from idaho, I'd be tempted to make a joke. I'd at least follow him into the bathroom "just to keep an eye on things".  It could definately be done in a way that would not be offensive to gay people (rather, to the much smaller minority of Idaho lawmakers).

PS I'm assuming the sign language has to do with the foot-tapping incident.

Actually (0.00 / 0)
My offense gene is dormant; can someone explain to me exactly how that slogan is offensive?

I don't see any normative judgment of being gay (it's gross, it's awesome, it's sinful, it's natural).  Just a declarative statement (is, is not).  Seems like the only way this statement would be offensive is if the audience's denotative meaning of the word were preexistingly homophobic.

This was a joke folks.  Lighten up.  I read much, much more offensive comments over at Kos when Craig was front-page news...

One is not like the other. (0.00 / 0)
It's one thing to bash the hell out of a moralist hypocrite.  It's quite another to bash an entire group of people.

Besides, offense is in the eye of the beholder.  Are you certain that you didn't find the comments at the Orange Hell offensive precisely because they were posted at the dKos?  Your past behavior here strongly suggests it.

Conrad redux (0.00 / 0)
Denny's following in the footsteps of his mentor, the former Senator Burns (who singlehandedly slurred women, firefighters, African Americans and Arabs).

Let's hope Montanans retire Denny, too.
