Ask these Republicans if they still support their campaign promise after they said....

by: Junior

Fri Jan 30, 2009 at 10:29:14 AM MST

(This post needs no comment... - promoted by Jay Stevens)

"Montanans ought to look across the border to Wyoming.  That state responsibly encourages energy development and uses some of the revenue to fund schools and pay teachers higher salaries."  Sen. Roy Brown (R-SD 25)

"Wyoming provides a great example of how economic growth can and does benefit schools.  As Wyoming's natural-resource industry has grown, so have the salaries paid to teachers."  "We can and must provide the same for the children of our state." Sen. Roy Brown (R-SD 25)

"Montana should be developing our natural resources in a more expansive and responsible way and, in turn, use 25 percent of all new tax revenue from energy production for education salaries, infrastructure, materials, etc."  Sen. John Brenden (R-SD 18)

"I would also like to see our state pay its teachers more, and I believe we can accomplish this, as Wyoming has, by developing our resources and boosting our state's economy."  Rep. Wendy Warburton (R-HD 34)

"Surrounding states that are developing resources have more tax revenue that creates more flexibility in financing such things as higher teacher pay and health and human services."   Rep. Mike Milburn (R-HD19).

"He (Kerns) says increased funding for public schools isn't going to happen unless the state taps its coal, oil and natural gas resources." Rep. Krayton Kerns (R-HD 58)

"We can develop our natural resources while protecting our environment and I would support legislation to accomplish this goal. We have a tremendous opportunity to support school funding and other infrastructure needs and a supplier of secure affordable energy in our Nation."  Rep. Cary Smith (R-HD 55)

"I believe a better answer is to cut the ties of schools and property taxes. I would propose a bill that would switch the reliance from property tax to excise taxes from coal, gas, and methane."  Rep. Lee Randall (R-HD 39)

"We've got to raise pay for our teachers to a competitive wage."  Sen. Taylor Brown (R-SD 22)

"Decrease tuition for Montanans that attend higher education (college). This should be accomplished with the tax's Montana receives from energy development."  Rep. David Howard (R-HD 60)

"I support good pay for good teachers."  Sen. Daniel McGee (R-SD 29)

"Increase income to schools by selling coal and/or generating electricity next to the mine."  Sen. Verdell Jackson (R-SD 5)

Answer to vote smart test:

Yes - Provide funding increase to teacher salaries.  Sen. Dave Lewis (R-SD 42)

Yes - Provide funding to increase teacher salaries.  Sen. Rick Liable (R-SD 44)

Yes - Provide funding to increase teacher salaries.  Sen. Kelly Gebhardt (R-SD 23)

Yes - Provide funding to increase teacher salaries.  Sen. Greg Barkus (R-SD 4)

Fact: Montana has increased oil production by 38% since 2004.
Fact:  Montana has increased gas production by 34% since 2004.
Fact:  Exxon Mobile posted a record $45 billion profit last year.

Fact: Montana has increased oil production by 38% since 2004.
Fact:  Montana has increased gas production by 34% since 2004.

Here you go (4.00 / 1)
Department of Energy

Just wondering (0.00 / 0)
When can the "kids" expect an apology?

[ Parent ]
I'm not a writer here (0.00 / 0)
I'm just a commenter, asshole.  The sources you asked for were provided.  Not one person reading this likely gives a hairy hoot what you are or are not satisfied with.  If you have contradictory information to those facts, post it.  Otherwise, those facts are totally rad, and you're just acting up like a temperamental two-year old.  You owe an apology.

Don't sweat it too much though, Rusty/sydney.  No one here expects any class from you anyway.

[ Parent ]
Try acting like a grown up (0.00 / 0)
And use your words, Wulfgar.

Facts are that Republicans have been pushing resource development for ages, with the belief and intention of relieving property tax while fully funding education.  Just cuz Democrats are PRETENDING they've always been for energy production, doesn't make it so.

Claim claim claim, (0.00 / 0)
blah blah blah.

Rusty/sydney, you are really good at demanding proof from others, but all you offer is tripe opinion.  Prove something, for once in your miserable life.  That would be the 'grown up' thing to do, so possibly beyond you.

[ Parent ]
I did... (0.00 / 0)
I linked.

And we're not the same.  Don't even look alike.  But don't take my word for it, ask Jay or Matt or whoever runs this site and they'll confirm it.

- Keeping the Left honest since 2001

[ Parent ]
No Rusty/sydney (0.00 / 0)
You posted a link with a claim of "manipulation".  What was manipulated?  How was it manipulated?  How does it stand against what Junior posted as the desires (campaign lies) that our fine state Republicans put forth?

You see, Rusty/sydney, that would be an argument.  That would be proof.  But you keep persisting that posters here owe you something, without offering anything in return (exactly like the Republican cry-babies in the federal Congress.)  If you wish to add to the conversation, discussion, debate then do so, Rustysyd.  But quit expecting that this website exists to serve your, how did you put it, feeeelings.

[ Parent ]
While you continually insult me, (0.00 / 1)
I'm not going to waste time trying to use logic or produce facts for you.

Read the link.  Figure it out for yourself.  I have a life.

[ Parent ]
"I'm not going to waste time trying to use logic" (0.00 / 0)
Well and truthfully stated...

[ Parent ]
But you'll waste time responding to me? (0.00 / 0)
Wouldn't that time be more productive showing how the person who posted the damned thread was wrong, rather than accusing me of being mean to you?

This is you, Rustysyd:

Try acting like a grown up

Be snarky
And retarded all you want

I understand far greater than any of you Liberal "thinkers", who somehow feeeeeel

I get the Wulfgars saying that those rich people make too much (a blatant lie for which you have yet to even admit to.)

Aww pwoor baby Wulfie...
Did I mix up my lefties?

So perhaps wealth envy isn't your thing, just racism.

That's not including your alter-ego, and that's just in the last two days.  And now you're seriously going to whine about how your time is too precious to deal with insult?

Sydney, I'm going to explain this to you terribly clearly.  This is a progressive website.  That means it's our house, not yours. You want to crawl into your little Republicant hole and whine about the mean old lefties, you go right ahead.  But no one here, not me, JC, or the proprietors owe you explanation or exposition or comfort.  You came onto our turf and pissed on our shoes.  That is your life.  That's what you chose to do.  That you wouldn't expect blowback speaks poorly of you, very poorly indeed.

Now, you go ahead and run back to your life, because the big meanies at LitW wouldn't accept you as the special little snowflake.  I can personally guarantee that not one person here will shed a tear if we never hear from you again.

If you wish discussion and debate, then engage in that.  Otherwise, cry somewhere else, Rustysyd.

[ Parent ]
Proof that the Dems don't give a shit about energy development, and in that, don't care about funding education.... (0.00 / 1)
The Enabling Act provided that proceeds from the sale and permanent disposition of any of the trust lands, or part thereof, shall constitute permanent funds for the support and maintenance of the public schools and the various state institutions for which the lands had been granted. The Montana Constitution provides that these permanent funds shall forever remain inviolate, guaranteed by the State of Montana against loss or diversion.

The Enabling Act further provided that rentals received on leased lands, interest earned on the permanent funds arising from these lands, interest earned on deferred payments on lands sold, and all other actual income shall be available for the maintenance and support of such schools and institutions.

http://www.dnrc.mt.gov/trust/A...

77-1-202. Powers and duties of board. (1) The board shall exercise general authority, direction, and control over the care, management, and disposition of state lands and, subject to the investment authority of the board of investments, the funds arising from the leasing, use, sale, and disposition of those lands or otherwise coming under its administration. In the exercise of these powers, the guiding principle is that these lands and funds are held in trust for the support of education and for the attainment of other worthy objects helpful to the well-being of the people of this state as provided in The Enabling Act. The board shall administer this trust to:
   (a) secure the largest measure of legitimate and reasonable advantage to the state; and
   (b) provide for the long-term financial support of education.

http://data.opi.mt.gov/bills/m...

It would appear that the money raised from any leases granted by the Land Board (controlled solely by the Democrats) would go directly into the school system.  It would appear as if the problem could almost entirely solve itself.  Weird, eh?

Did you see what I did there?!?  I presented you kids with facts and then I cited my sources to those facts!  Neato, eh?!

[ Parent ]
Right, Rustysyd (0.00 / 0)
And it's also completely beside the point made in the original post.  If the sale of extraction leases completely covered the cost of education, then it would not be an issue for budgeting.  They don't, so it is.  The governor sets the budget, but the legislature has to vote to allocate the moneys.  (Do I need to dramatically link and quote that, too, Rustysyd?)  Hence, we have the point of the post.  Are the Republicans in the legislature going to do what they said they would do, or not?

The point I have been involved in is that you called the poster, and the proprietors of the website 'liars'.  You haven't shown how.  You won't show how.  You're just wanking, and proving yourself to be exactly the troll I argue that you are.

[ Parent ]
"I think... (0.00 / 0)
[that what others really think is just a figment of my imagination]."

Since when did you believe yourself to have paranormal powers, Rusty? More likely it's just a pigment of your delusion.

Oh, and thanks for being such a good foil here. The amateur dittoheads in my neighborhood hardly know what hits 'em after I deliver a punch perfected on you, sydney@ and coobs.

And you'll just have to try harder to make Wulfgar!'s list this year. Sharpen my sword, oh oxidized one.

[ Parent ]
I think...I think I am...therefore I am, I think.... (0.00 / 1)
It has nothing to do with paranormal abilities.

You see, I once was a liberal, but then I grew up....I know how you people think.

A Lefty attempts to crawl inside the psyche of a Conservative and understand them, usually to no avail.  A Liberal believes they know what drives a Conservative, they don't have the first clue.

Like I said, I use to be idealistic and liberal, but then I made the conscience decision to become an adult =)

[ Parent ]
Maybe if you made conscious decisions (0.00 / 0)
instead of conscience ones, you'd be aware of how your logic is but a projection of your own delusions about Liberals.

Me? I'd rather live in a country full of idealistic children than one run by ignoble adults.

[ Parent ]
the funds generated by the sale or least of trust lands, (4.00 / 1)
Rusty, go into an account, and schools are funded off of the interest, which compounds.

Leases or revenues do not just go directly to the schools.  You get that, right?

[ Parent ]
did you read the frickin' report? (4.00 / 1)
maybe you should go beyond page 5.  Like to page 6 or page 7?

What the hell are you talking about?  The "facts" sure look accurate to me.

[ Parent ]
It has everything to do with (0.00 / 0)
1) starting points

2) permits issued

Rusty isn't really Rusty.  I find that to be a 'Sin', and rather 'rude'.

glass houses - (0.00 / 0)
Junior - there's an old saying - I think it came from a conservative -

"People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

Should we talk about our good Governor maybe, who has kept none of his campaign promises?

Or our Senator, who was going to vote to end the war, and quite frankly didn't like earmarks period?

No, Eric (0.00 / 0)
Neither of those were the topic of this post and thread.  If you wish to make them a topic of conversation, then please feel free to post a diary about your concerns.  Otherwise, stick to the topic at hand.

[ Parent ]
Seems to be the rightwing tactic these days... (0.00 / 0)
try and derail blog topics in the fear that we may discuss something useful, and apply what we learn to the real world.

[ Parent ]
LOL (0.00 / 0)
None of you are willing to debate issues.  It's sad.

- Keeping the Left honest since 2001

[ Parent ]
Stick to the issue in this thread (0.00 / 0)
and debate away. Quit trying to change the subject.

[ Parent ]
Permit numbers are down (0.00 / 0)
Production is down.

Not sure why the figures are always since "2004" but basically, we had a production high in 2005 or 2006, and it's been decreasing since.  Coal plants are being shut down, and new regulations are constantly being passed that make production more onerous.

Also, since we produce such a relatively small amount, numbers such as 38%, when taken from 2004 numbers, don't mean much.  Our increase/production has been nowhere near states like N Dakota, WY or New Mexico.

- Keeping the Left honest since 2001

[ Parent ]
What about the campaign promises? (0.00 / 0)
Should they keep them?

[ Parent ]
Is this a trick question? (0.00 / 0)
I would also like to see school funded through our resources.

Is there a specific bill ID'd that you would like them to vote Yes on?

And where did my links go?

The facts.... (0.00 / 1)
Liberals never them get in their way!

Why use reason when you can run solely on emotion?!

[ Parent ]
No, it's the topic of the thread, (0.00 / 0)
to which you have yet to speak.

[ Parent ]
I'll try this AGAIN (0.00 / 1)
To the OP:

Please cite your source for this comment/information:

Fact: Montana has increased oil production by 38% since 2004.
Fact:  Montana has increased gas production by 34% since 2004.

LOL, I just noticed you edited/deleted my original comment to this thread...you Leftys and your inability to deal with differing opinions, PRICELESS!

Do you kids ever admit to making a mistake?!

[ Parent ]
You weren't edited or deleted, Rusty (0.00 / 0)
You were troll rated out, just like this comment is likely to be.  See, us "kids" are more than happy to admit a mistake.  And not slapping down a troll who petulantly demands that we prove ourselves to him, well yeah, that would be a mistake.  Good thing most of us didn't make that mistake on election day ...

[ Parent ]
The topic was energy, (0.00 / 0)
and the numbers on the production along with campaign promises from certain Republicans.  I took issue with the numbers, then linked to a government report.  That link was removed.

I stayed on topic even answering the strawman question, moreover, others stray further than I ever have yet are not removed.

- Keeping the Left honest since 2001

[ Parent ]
Uhhhm, syd? (0.00 / 0)
No comment of yours has been hidden or removed.  Dudess, you just lied.

And you haven't taken issue with the numbers.  You just posted a link and said the rest of us should take issue, without ever explaining what you were on about, or what you read that us idjits didn't.  You might want to be more clear in the future.

And you're wrong about the topic.  Will the Republicans in the Montana legislature do what they said, and vote to support education, or not?  It's a damned simple question.

[ Parent ]
So we don't have a break in comments (0.00 / 0)
If this discussion is to continue, please do it here.  Unless you want to break the comments ...

Who lied? (0.00 / 0)
The link she posted has been removed.

You even commented on it...

You worried that no one is paying attention to you?  Here's a hint, asswipe.  Next to no one is.  Only those of us who want to laugh at you pay attention.  You've established yourself as a troll, and a dick.  In the rare moments you might be correct about anything, even your Republicant brethren have abandoned you.   I hope you'll forgive me but I find that funny.  Okay, don't forgive me.  I find it hilarious!

Karma, bitch.  Sucks to be you, doesn't it?

[ Parent ]
You called Sydney a liar... (0.00 / 0)
and as it turns out, you were mistaken....thus, I believe an apology is in order

=)

[ Parent ]
No John (0.00 / 0)
I won't apologize to you for anything.  I've already apologized to 'syd' for any wrong I've done her. If she has issue with the admins, she needs to take it up with the admins.  I never called her a liar; I see what I see.  I've little idea why you think I owe anything.

Your involvement is just so much more BS.  Perhaps you think yourself with degree as a blogger, and worthy of making money as such ...  kind of like an architect.  Hmm, I wonder if bloggers could kick you out as a fraud like architects would do ...

[ Parent ]

You can keep calling me John if you want, ya nutjob....It's nice to see that I bring a little joy into your obviously otherwise pathetic existence.
