Barack Obama Lands $25m and a Whole Bunch of Supporters

by: Matt Singer

Wed Apr 04, 2007 at 10:32:13 AM MDT

This is big news. Obama brought in over $25m from over 100,000 donors. Here's my take, David Sirota's (less flattering) opinion, and Kos' version. Reportedly, the Hotline, the insider's publication (that I don't have access to), is saying that Hillary's camp is crapping itself. That's probably the bottom line here.

What camp are you putting your 10 cents in for?

I will share a little bit of humor.

A recent survey indicated that even 4/5 members of the KKK are supporting Obama.

I remember reading ... (0.00 / 0)
that they heavily favored Tancredo.  Hmm, go figure.

....and wrong.  That was an aweful post, even if its true....I truly feel sorry for you.  Your a pathetic man who oozes weak sauce.

It's disgusting... (0.00 / 0)
and I'm not just referring to Atlas' post.  These amounts of money are shameful.  Is this how a world leader is chosen...by the tons of cash accumulated?  Sirota is the closest to getting it right.  We aren't handicapping a horse race here, we're looking for the brightest, most ethical and effective candidate to get this country out of the mess it's in.  Singer  mentions Obama's contributions as being more grassroots.  If $25 million dollars is grassroots, then my definition of grassroots is way off.  I'm going to have a tough time supporting any candidate who isn't advocating radical campaign finance reform, whether it's Schweitzer, Baucus, Obama, whomever.

I agree that the whole money race is sick. I agree with Sirota.  We need to talk about our severe problems like the insurance industry's stranglehold on our healthcare system.
I'll be glad when the debates start instead of the stupid horse race coverage.  My husband is a rancher.  He like to see the manual.  You can't repair the tractor without the manual.  You can't just say that you "hope" we can have a better tomorrow and a better crop.  You've got to fix the damn machine.

finance reform my dying a**.  Worse now than it ever has been.  Be interesting to know how much money is flowing into the democrat coffers from foreign sources.  China donated millions to Bubba and I'm wondering if they'll be supporting his wife as well?  I guess it will depend on what they get in return.  Who knows, maybe the Clintons already gave them everything they're interested in and she won't get diddly squat.

They already own more than 4% of the Nation's debt (thanks to Republican spending.)  Why shouldn't the Chinese have a say in what they've bought?

That's Clinton's fault remember. He even nailed Christ to the cross and ate the forbidden fruit.

I don't know... (0.00 / 0)
what you're complaining about, Woofie, all those bucks went towards liberal feel good programs.  You're just upset that a wannabe democrat gets all the credit.  Not to fret though, the Pelosi crowd will more than outdo W.  And I can't wait to hear all of the democrats scream when they look at their tax liability increases when they let Bush's tax cuts lapse.  I make a tad over 20 K, so the "rich" guy, that I am, can handle it.  Go taxacrats!!!!

he's a democrat and related to Clinton.  Speaking of that, didn't GWB's dad refer to Clinton as one of his own?  Drag that bone back to your den and gum it for a while.

A lot to be said (0.00 / 0)
First off, I agree with Pete Talbot above, money should not be used as the metric for presidential fitness.

Matt, there is indeed a lot to be said for Obama, specifically in the sheer number of donations he received. That says a lot about the grass roots support that his candidacy is seeing, particularly when compare to the Clinton money machine. However, I am scared of a candidate that 'appears' to make plays for the right. We aren't going to get their votes and we need a candidate that appears strong and firm.

Obama might be that man, but I have a difficult time getting  his statement on war funding when I compare it to Edwards statement on the issue:

"If the president vetoes a funding bill, Congress should send him another bill that funds the troops, brings them home, and ends the war. And if he vetoes that one, they should send him another that does the same thing,"

I can not shake the feeling that that is what America wants to see. I appreciate that Obama's stance on the war has been strong since the beginning, I just hope that he understands that we need to see that strong stance now more than ever.
