Election

A Modest Proposal

by: celestialaly12

Thu May 15, 2008 at 11:40:39 AM MST

During the election season many of us who post here have many interests in mind. We have the people, issues, and organizations we all support. The most important thing we do is verbalize that. We are entitled to our form of free speech, and opinion. Sometimes it gets heated, and that can be healthy. I'd like to ask you all to raise the bar a little bit. If you work for an organization or candidate it is appropriate to make that fact known. It only helps your candidate and builds your integrity.
Here are a coupld of examples. Julianna posts for NARAL and makes that fact known. Barrett Kaiser posts for Senator Baucus and makes that fact known. Matt Singer plugs for Forward Montana and of course makes that known. The other day a person posted a comment on the story: "Nancy Keenan Endorses Denise Juneau". smartinMT forgot to include in his rant that he works for Holly Raser. Please use a little integrity, smartinMT, and make sure you are doing more to help Ms. Raser and not hinder her.
For those of you that do disclose keep up the good work.

Parker Wins LITW Poll

by: Matt Singer

Thu May 15, 2008 at 07:23:30 AM MST

John Parker has been leading basically since the beginning, but after Wheat and Bullock started to close the gap, he has surged into a wider lead once again.

Parker now draws 38 votes and 47.5% of the three-way total.

We'll give him this one. And mix it up with a new poll for the OPI race.

Pick your person: Denise Juneau, Sam Kitzenberg, Claudette Morton, or Holly Raser.

Goofy BS

by: Matt Singer

Wed May 14, 2008 at 09:13:51 AM MST

Some of my co-workers and I were out hitting people up for mail voting at the Bill Clinton speech this morning. With all the rain, it was like a scene from a Hemingway novel.

But mixing farce with whatever plotline we were in were two guys with giant signs telling people the Presidential nomination race is over and that Obama is the nominee -- in less polite terms.

I heard one Clinton supporter converse with them and it sounded to me like one of them said that they were actually Nader supporters when the woman told them that they weren't doing their candidate any favors.

There is something about operating in fundamentally bad faith in politics that really chaps my ass. And I know that probably makes me a hypocrite in some way that one of my conservative friends will be able to point out in no small time.

But, honestly -- how childish. And that goes for whether they're Nader or Obama supporters.

I Just Voted Absentee

by: Matt Singer

Mon May 12, 2008 at 15:49:23 PM MST

I took a page out of Rush Limbaugh's playbook and pulled the lever for Ron Paul and Bob Kelleher.

Just kidding. I voted in the Dem primary -- but I'll keep my ballot a secret for now.

Rasmussen Polls General Election Matchups in Montana

by: Matt Singer

Fri Apr 11, 2008 at 12:29:49 PM MST

Here are some staggering numbers from Rasmussen on general election matchups in Montana.
John McCain48%
Barack Obama43%

John McCain56%
Hillary Clinton36%
These numbers came out yesterday -- indicating that the polling happened after the first round of candidate visits.

The startling truth? An Obama-McCain campaign makes Montana a competitive state, at least by this polling data.

Hunt Endorses the Responsible Plan to End the War

by: Matt Singer

Tue Mar 18, 2008 at 08:56:49 AM MST

Well, I have to admit I like this -- within 24 hours of its release, Retired Lt. Col. Jim Hunt has signed on with the responsible plan to get out of Iraq. His website features a link that a reader tipped me off to this morning. I don't see a statement yet, but hopefully one will come out sometime soon.

Open Thread: Jim Hunt Files

by: Matt Singer

Sat Mar 15, 2008 at 08:37:53 AM MST

I'm not sure if Jay already posted this and I missed it, but thought I'd flag that it is official -- Jim Hunt has filed:
Hunt said his campaign will point out the distinct differences between the candidates on basic values, such as the right to privacy, the Iraq war and the environment.

"If people become aware of our values, I think people will see a dramatic difference between us," he said Friday.

As an example, Hunt said Rehberg "has supported the president on the Iraq war, at a cost of $12 billion a month, at the expense of our health care and education (programs)."

Also, Mike Lange has filed for the U.S. Senate:
Billings Republican Michael Lange made his bid for the U.S. Senate official Friday when he plunked down $1,693 at the Montana Secretary of State's office and filed his official candidacy documents.

"We are overwhelmed with support," Lange, a state representative, said shortly after his filing. "Every week we're out on the road campaigning."
